It's alright it's not that great. Shattered Shadows can be good sometimes too. Generally I am not a fan of AoE with a decent or long cast time, 80ft range and if it gets disrupted by the first target everyone disrupts it. Doesnt mean it cant be good sometimes.

Like I said, the important things are Disastrous Cascade, neverending agony and lengthening shadows. You can add Shadow knives to that if you want. After that you have lackluster choices. It was more about putting points in the tree than getting paralyzing nightmares.

You guys are nitpicking choices that dont really matter that much.

I advise you to go with the standard single-target spec:
http://builder.returnofreckoning.com/ca ... ,5415,5399
It's very good in every situation. Even in zerg you will usually do more meaningful damage and get more deathblows (like 10 times more) than in aoe spec. Put the remaining points in the trees for more baseline damage.

Then, if you REALLY want to gimp yourself and turn your glorious oneshot machine into a dumb 5sec cd single button spammer then get aoe spec:
http://builder.returnofreckoning.com/ca ... ,5399,5422

Note 1: whatever you spec is, you may want to replace one of you tactics with "glorious carnage" to get your morale2 fast and slot the morale "shatter". This is for morale bombs.
Note 2: close quarters is really bugged and only marginally usefull. You will be able to use it in zerg fights only if you and your opponed have perfect connections and your computer is a monster that happens to run RoR smoothly.

AOE spec rant:
Spoiler:
As other people have said, sorc aoe spec IS a mess. Fully speccing into destruction tree only really improves 1 baseline spell (infernal wave); and has only one usefull spell: disastrous cascade. All other choices are bad: GoN is awfull, black horror is the worst mastery spelll ever (useful only with a specific group setup based on corp damage), piercing shadows so bad I don't know where to begin. Paralyzing nightmares is bad, it's a speccable M4 that is worst than your baseline M2 AND it's a nerfed version of the kotbs M3. You can get chilling gusts in the calamity tree to increase ice spikes fluff damage.
Also sorc does not have a rotation to do damage on the move like the BW: one infernal wave every 5 sec, an ice spike and a surging pain here and there. You just can't do a surging pain every odd GCD because it will deplete your dark magic.

Maybe you forgot but deathblows don't give you rewards anymore, it's the amount of damage you put out. I don't give two shits about the amount of deathblows. It's only a vague indication. St sorc getting more kills (real kills not dbs) in a zerg than aoe sorcs? Sure man, that's pure logic  Seems to me you never played in a proper wb.

Cq works perfectly fine pretty much all the time for me, I barely notice it's bugged, but I guess that's a risk you take. If you have a proper setup and know how to rotate spells and mantain dark magic, sorc is one of the strongest aoe classes on destro, if not the strongest.

But anyway ops question was answered so enough about this.

@OP you gave no info about the type of content (kite grp, scenario, keepfights, wb/zerg fights) you want to use the build for as well as your renown rank so I'm just gonna throw out 2 simple 40/40+ builds catered to single and aoe damage that are easy to use and have a rather low skillfloor but also a lower skill ceiling.

AoE Build
Generic aoe tree, fast pump to m2, 95Dark magic on impact.
When you and your wb approach a target enemy wb go:
ImpendingDoom>Ice Spikes>Infernal Wave>Ice Spikes>Disasstrous Cascade>Surging Pain
(try to aim first and second icespike on a bit different targets to get maximum coverage)
what and how to use abilities during the acutal prolonged fight comes with gametime and experience with your Cooldowns.
Gloomburst>Impending doom also gives a good cleanup after the fight is won and helps spike single targets that try to flank or push your heals. On rr 50 i'd reccomend getting lenghtening shadows.

Single target build
Generic left tree, limited aoe pressure

Instead of chilling gusts you could use swell of gloom instead, but this needs an active heal supporting you.
You set up your kills with Chillwind and Word of Pain and finish them off with spells like arctic blast, gloomburst, impending doom and hand of ruin.
Mind that arcitc blast has a slow traveltime and can set up a huge burst when followed with gloomburst and one of the 2 instacasts (Impending doom, Hand of ruin), timed with the Word of Pain tick while your target is under the spiritdebuff from chillwind, alot of damage can hit at the same time.

The limited aoe pressure you get from ice spike being able to proc chilling gusts tacitc makes this a good zergsurf build and something you can spam while you look for a tagret in your spike range
