Aside from the end times I have always enjoyed the High Elf - Dark Elf rivalary.

You could have done three Factions:
Order (as is)
Chaos - as one unified faction You could play with the gods as their own form of races and really mixed it up with daemons and beastmen.
Destruction - Dark Elves - Skaven - Orcs and Goblins

or you could just do order as is then make it a 4 way by splitting destro into individual factions and then you nerf order and buff the former destro factions since their each stand alone now

Can't comment on the new stuff, too busy still reading the old stuff and eagerly awaiting it's revival with Total War: Warhammer.

Having said that, they really killed off an iconic setting. When I thought of Tolkein type fantasy, I always thought of Warhammer first.
