Critical Error: Authentication Failed

I've lurked on the forums for about an hour now and tried all of the solutions suggested for this problem.

I can get the launcher to run the game, but cannot connect to the character selection server, the game gives the authentication failed error after a few seconds.

If I quit before the error occurs and try to re-launch, I get this error

at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.WriteFileToArchive(FileInArchive archFile, MemoryStream MS)
at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.ReplaceFile(FileInArchive archFile, FileStream newFile)
at RoRLauncher.Client.UpdateWarData()

but the game still launches, so weird...

I've made sure the entire folder is not read-only, I've forwarded all of my ports, I've moved the game folder, I've re-downloaded and re-extracted the entirety of the game and laucher, I've used a VPN. My firewall is turned off everything is set to run as administrator.

I just want to play this damn game!

Alright, after tinkering a bit more and trying a different VPN, I seem to have gotten this to work. Sort of a shame I need to use a VPN, which I'll be paying for because the free ones suck. I would rather give that money to the devs working on ROR
