I'm sorry if this was already covered previously, but I couldn't find it and it was an issue in the advice chat yesterday.
People switch realm according to the winning side of a conflict.
My two cents, and mine only, would be to put a sort of cooldown, say 30 minutes, for the player to log a toon from the opposite faction to the current one.
I can't ask realm restrictions (even if I would be glad to choose not only one realm but one sole guild), but at least a little deterrent.
MMORPG's should imho be based to the attachment to the people you play with, your guild. To consider them online friends.
I know that people could still open a new account, but this is just a suggestion, my personal opinion... I'm an idealist and maybe too honest myself.

Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
People would use separate accounts for each faction. It would appear to be a new person logging in and bypass the proposed 30min cool down.
Maybe something linked to their IP address. But then even that is easy enough to bypass.
Its a tough problem to address and whatever restrictions you implement will affect the honest players more than the sly players who bounce depending on the winning side as they're usually more likely to try to bypass whatever restriction is implemented.

Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
Unfortunately it is kind of an insoluble issue.
I don't think the cooldown will make a situation any better. Actually it may even worsen the issue, since x-realmers will have two accounts and can actually log two toons at once.
Some people suggested an implementation of AAO (Against All Odds) buff which should boost Exp and/or Renown gains and affect the underpopulated realm, but I doubt it is an ideal solution.

Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
There is no way around to fix the xrealm problem besides a system that doesn't encourage the players to zerg as much, aka a multi-zone rvr system.
You can try everything you want, it won't work. You either do so people can't play together, or they just make more accounts. You can't stop it completely, you can only limit it.

Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
I have pondered about this issue of multiple accounts and I was wondering if it would be possible to add something into the launcher that prevented multiple accounts being used in quick succession.
An encrypted file hidden somewhere or maybe a registry entry could contain the last username used to log in with a time stamp so if a player uses a different username less than 30 mins or so after using their other username it would prevent the client from starting up the game.
Of course there would be ways round this system but if you are pathetic and desperate enough to have to be on the winning side all the time then i pity the fool :p

Not gonna work. What if siblings, roommates or even couples share the same PC?punkindonuts wrote:I have pondered about this issue of multiple accounts and I was wondering if it would be possible to add something into the launcher that prevented multiple accounts being used in quick succession.
Again, look above.punkindonuts wrote:An encrypted file hidden somewhere or maybe a registry entry could contain the last username used to log in with a time stamp so if a player uses a different username less than 30 mins or so after using their other username it would prevent the client from starting up the game.
You can't do that. People share computers.punkindonuts wrote:Of course there would be ways round this system but if you are pathetic and desperate enough to have to be on the winning side all the time then i pity the fool :p
Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
And not only do people share computers - a Windows operating system can be emulated on other platforms where the registry would be easily exploited... that's not the point.
Imho the point, and the core subject I intended my thread to be about, is the possibility of a 30 minute "cooldown" between opposite faction logins.
Which by the way was not my idea.... another user mentioned it while I was discussing this problem in the advice chat.

Re: [Suggestion] About X-realming
I will share what others have said already. This is a free game, nothing to stop anyone from creating multiple accounts, so even with a "cooldown" people can just change accounts and not have to worry about it. No sense in putting a cooldown in with it easily and legally bypassed.ph4ntaman wrote:And not only do people share computers - a Windows operating system can be emulated on other platforms where the registry would be easily exploited... that's not the point.
