Whats with all the game files?

Why are there so many files for this game? I can understand there being alot of files if the files are small but each one of these files seem to be pretty large. Do I really have to download and unzip all of these? Im not upset just really confused lol. Ive never come across a private server with this much content to download. Anyone have any comforting words to make me less confused about how much i have to download. xD

it's 10g in all ... just like the live game. So yeah not exactly small.

10gigs compaired to current game releases like Wildstar and Star Citizen (MMO) like 35+ gigs.. or GTA 5, BFH, Dragon Age, MGS 5, Witcher 3 all being almost 50 gigs or over 50 gigs in size. Id have to say 10 gigs is pretty great for the quality of content and scale of the world. Also in this day and age with Fiber becoming more abundant and almost all major ISP's atleast using fiber as a backbone in reality 10 gigs isnt a day of downloading like it was 15 years ago. Its like 5 minutes.

This is a game from 2008. An unfinished one, at that, as EA released it before it was ready, which leads me to believe that Mythic didn't have the time to properly compress the game files.

Well I guess if he was going to route of downloading each file set and unzipping them it would seem a tad tedious. Also many ISPs state side still have some abysmal packaging plans .. so that can also play a role in downloading.

So OP dont fret to much about it. It is what it is... Its a full game from 08 and although not all areas are completed there is still plenty of content to fiddle with at this alpha stage.
