Is there anyway to mark a kill target that your group mates can see? (Put a large icon above the kill targets head).
We tried the Enemy add-on last night, but the assist/marking function doesn't seem to work.

The /assist and /target macro's don't work at all yet, i don't think any marking/assist addons will work yet cause of that.

The assist function is not on the server yet, same with addon communication that works over random hidden chat channels.
Don't know how high this is in the priority list, but i guess not higher than medium.

Thank you for the heads up. We did try using /assist macros last night too and noticed it didn't work.
I was hoping that there would be a way for party members to see targets I mark, but without the assist function ingame, it makes sense marking wouldn't work either.

Ya, on the list of things I'd like to see on the server, that would be really low.
Target calling on VoIP, using the targets class, butchered pronunciation of their name and general location works just fine.....just not as easy mode lol

This is exactly why it's low priority. MMORPGs already all but dispense with the idea of personal skill. I'd rather the addons which make the group aspect trivial stay broken for as long as possible.just not as easy mode lol

I'm much more interested in the marking function rather then the /assist.

/Assist sort of automates the targeting function of a group. I understand the idea behind it, it allows a teamwork easier. When your targeting a healer in a pack of 20 people, assist gets you on the target quicker. Tho, I think it can be completely replaced with good communication and situational awareness.
Marking on the other hand allows you to simply gives a visual cue along with description of the target over VoIP.
I completely agree, new MMOs are dumbed down and quite frankly horrible. It's getting so bad that they are even dumbing down the amount of buttons you use. I don't agree /assist is an example of the newschool of MMO dumbing down play. Slash commands like assist and follow were part of DAoC (IMO the best MMO of all times ^_^ )

Reducing the number of keybinds you need is in no way "dumbing down" a game. What kind of lame logic is that?
If I can get the same results with half the keybinds, that's called efficiency. It also reduces the stress on the developers.

The problem with not having an assist is that it further complicates things for rDPS classes. How can a SH assist a Choppa that is in the enemy backlines surrounded by 8-10 order players AND 6-8 destro allies? Clicking won't do it.Azarael wrote:This is exactly why it's low priority. This is also one of the reasons Sorcs/BWs just spam AoE.

I understand the idea behind reducing the number of keybindings and focusing more on movement/aiming/reaction time/ect. I could agree, it doesn't decrease the amount of skill it takes to play, I think it's shifting the focus of the skill it takes to play.
I do find a lot of games are going too far with this, reducing buttons to 6 and under. It's something I personally don't enjoy. It's much easier to develop muscle memory for 6 abilities rather then 20+ and I feel it's changing a core part of MMOs.
Personally, I'd like to see a game do both. Keep an "oldschool" approach to skills with making aiming, movement and reaction time more important. I thought this would have been the natural evolution of MMOs. Sadly it's not, it seems like (at least for a time) the evolution of MMOs was to do away with the trinity, decrease the amount of buttons and make MMOs play more like action fighting games rather then classic MMOs.

A work around, would be to have your range dps be your main target caller. When I played a Sorc on live, I'd be the one calling kill targets. As a range DPS I have a better overview of the field and made it easier to call targets.
