Welcome back! RoR is better than ever and there has been so many awesome additions since you last played.
White Lion has peaked my interest as well and I just started a new character today to try it out. They get bonuses from attacking from the sides and behind a lot, and their lion pet can be used as a distraction/tank, as the main dps threat, or you can attack together and both be a threat.
As for Witch Elf - that was my very first character class way back when WAR released. And boy is that class super fun. Unfortunately, they only have female Witch Elves, so if you are a guy it ruins the immersion. But still, if you like Rogue/Assassin type classes, you will love this class. You get poisons and massive crits, can stealth and do really high dmg. Some of the daggers you get to wield are the best looking weapon models in the game and the armor sets are awesome. I highly recommend this class just because it is really fun and I enjoyed it on live immensely.
Truth be told, I never play female characters because I am a male. If I am playing an MMORPG, I am playing to BE my character in this game world. I am a huge Rogue player in WoW, so I picked WE because it was what I knew. Even as a female character, I played a bit and eventually really liked it and didn't mind playing as a female character. At some point your brain switches and instead of playing AS this character who is supposed to be you, you can look past it and it becomes more like any other game and you can still be immersed.
Welcome back and I hope you have a great time! Right now, except for a few dungeons and scenarios, RoR has everything Live had, plus lots of extra stuff too. Both Greenskin and Dwarf capital cities are full implemented with tons of quests and PQs and rares as well.
Have fun! S!

Re: Returning after a 4-year – Looking for a fresh start (DPS/Utility advice)
The reason why many Order players '' hate'' this class is because it's everywhere in the small scale( aka toxic) and is overpowered in this context (when geared/used correctly, newbie WE player wont have this issue). The game also had a lot of fotm WE players join their ranks since that dreaded mdps patch landed back in december patch which further buffed them in ways that should never had happened( double pounce etc).Lupin12 wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 3:35 pmchecking the forums, it seems like every second thread is crying for a Witch Elf nerf. Why is the WE so hated right now? Is it even worth investing time into a class that the community constantly complains about? I don't see that kind of community hate for the WL, Squig, or SW.
Maybe I just need to push through the lower tiers and find out myself, but I'd love to hear your take on the WE nerf-train vs the WL popularity before I commit
Having said that, if you whish to explore group playing in the larger scale setting RvR then a White lion or a Melee SH would be the only real choice, neither WE nor WH are really desired much in that context ( although a good player would still find a spot in a guild etc). Stealth classes can also form stealth groups and go gank togheter which will further make everyone hate them on both factions ( expect a lot of *emotes* and insults from enemy faction players).
In the end, play whatever you want and find most fun to you, if that is a bikini elf, then so be it!

Ok a few thoughts.
1. Both the White Lion and the Witch Elf class were fast levelers. By that I mean your (or at least mine) renown gain accumulates much quicker than with the Tank or Healing classes. On my Witch Elf I was amazed at how quickly I leveled from RR70 to RR80 (and there are a few videos from that time on my Youtube page to illustrate the journey). The same was...almost...as true on my White Lion, very quick when compared to leveling a Tank.
2. I found White Lions to have the best group utility when in a six-man party with another White Lion, particularly if both White Lions were in AOE spec. With a guard and a heal, as you stated in another post, the White Lion has good survivability and purpose. If you are roaming or pugging SC's, learn to use the Pet as well. Note, there are many within the player-base who do not like White Lion AOE spec and often denigrate it and those who play it. But just remember, there are many within the player-base who do not like anything and will denigrate everything and you will never make them happy regardless of what you do therefore ignore them. White Lion is a popular class because, even given abilities such as Pounce are continually fracked with, they are an effective class. Especially now that Fetch actually works.
3. The Witch Elf Nerf Train has been running ever since the first Witch Elf took to the field and got her first kill. However the Witch Elf class is the same as any other class. It sucks, but it is also awesome. Depends on what you do with it. For some good insight into the Witch Elf class, read over Krima's thread on the subject here:

Krima and I go way back as battlefield rivals. I respect his opinion on playing a Witch Elf and that thread has some good information in it.
4. Bottom Line: In game everyone is happy to see a good White Lion show up to a fight. You enjoy good Warband and Six-Man interface and can do a lot of damage to your opponents. Antithetically, most players don't pay that much attention to what Witch Elves are doing, and don't want you in their warband anyway. But always remember this: As a Witch Elf, you don't need a fracking Warband. In fact, stay out of warbands. They only get you killed.

I don't know, I always kinda liked immersion into the female class...
