[WE] i just started the game and i cant figure it out

hello i started playing 3 days ago, just made it to CR 18 RR 25 and i legit dont know what im supposed to do, every guide i read assumes im rr80 fully geared and like dude im still trying to figure out if envenomed blade or agonizing wound when im in a 1v1 situation.

is there somewhere i can read about WE at a lower level ? because right now im feeling very useless.

i dont care if SC or rvr or whatever content i just want to level up and enjoy it because right now im leveling up but the feel that im actually doing something is not there

Leveling videos are all but relics of the past, as the majority of the player-base consist of the hard-core long-term play-until-we-die crowd. However...

A few years back I crafted a few 'leveling' videos, one specifically featuring Witch Elf play. I am not sure if that video would be of much use to you because both the Witch Elf class and the RvR system we play in have since undergone extensive changes. I mean much of the video is theory-crafting molded around actual footage from scenario play promoting the message of simple perseverance and how to do that, so it might be of some help.

Note also that my style of crafting videos was different in those days because the RoR audience was different in those days. Today few have any patience for anything.

This video has no audio commentary but does feature Witch Elf play in the Nordenwatch Scenario. Some text commentary was added for flavor:

This was one of my most viewed videos ever, my 'Rules of Playing A Witch Elf' effort. If you watch it please take into account the fact both the class mechanics and the RvR system as a whole have changed, therefore the solo-roaming aspects are dated. For example the segment which begins at about the eighteen minute mark simply can't be done anymore. Following the publication of this video the mechanics of keeps was drastically changed to prevent just such a play-style.

This video does, however, feature one of the greatest lines I have ever delivered on any platform anywhere.

If you watch thank you and I hope they are of some help.

Hi Errede,

I think we ran into each other in several scenarios in a row yesterday. My WE in the game is named “Nyss.”

I faced a similar problem myself, and I'm still dealing with it. It's not really easy. My top priority right now is to reach CR40 and RR45. After that, it's the grind to RR60+.

Maybe the thread I created will be helpful to you?

Hi Errede,

I have a well-geared Witch Elf named "Tschuss," and I know the game well.

To help you improve, I suggest focusing on 3 key points while keeping in mind that you’re a new player, so I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much information.

1 - Gear/Build
2 - Gameplay
3 - UI/Addons

1 - Gear/Build

Renown Points:

Melee Crit -> 4 ranks
Futile Strikes -> 3 ranks
Parry -> 2 ranks

Critical strike percentage is the strongest stat in RoR. Most good players aim for a solid balance between high damage output and good survivability. If you play a lot solo, you can invest a bit more into Parry.

Talismans:

Mix of Strength and Wounds

Armor Sets:

As much as possible, until you get your BiS gear, mix 2 sets to benefit from the stat bonuses of both (Wounds and Strength).

I won’t go into the best way to reach BiS without spending your tokens here.

Possible spec at your level :
A - Around the one you are playing nowadays https://builder.returnofreckoning.com/c ... 0,9437,523
B - An other option : https://builder.returnofreckoning.com/c ... 37,523,521

2 - Gameplay

Forget the “Kill the healer first” propaganda — it doesn’t work in most MMOs (WoW, Albion, RoR, etc.).

In scenarios, prioritize DPS targets without Guard first. For example, focus on the ones rushing your healers — generally, players who do that aren’t very good, they tend to overextend, which makes them easier to kill.

Switch targets quickly to secure easy kills and force enemy healers and tanks into making mistakes. Focus frontline targets first, and don’t hesitate to test your damage on tanks.

Only rarely venture into enemy backlines at the start of fights.

Try to die less often. Play around your defensive cooldowns, use detaunt proactively when playing without a tank, and push/back off to drop aggro while giving your healers room to breathe and reposition.

You can also assist another DPS when you see that you’re both on the same page.

Basic damage rotation : 1 envenomed blade -> wrackling pains -> 2 envenomed blade -> Heart Render -> Ruthless assault -> Pierce armor

3 - UI/Addons

Enemy and Buffhead

You can’t play this game properly without an optimized UI. You need to:

See tank Guards on both enemies and allies
Track DoTs on yourself to anticipate incoming damage
Monitor important defensive/offensive morales

You’ll find ways to optimize this on the forums.

I can also send you gameplay videos if you’d like.

Hi Heals,

I’d definitely be very interested in the videos.

I’m taking a slightly different approach with my build:

But I’ve also seen that Mijal—another WE player—uses the Path of Carnage as well. What’s the advantage there?

Path of Carnage is about direct damage and armour ignore. Works we against melees, dps especially as they have less front defences compared with tanks.
Path of Suffering is about nonphysical damage, this type of damage ignores armour. Also it is an anti healers tree.
Path of Treachery is about positioning, control and anti casters.
Choose your tree according to your preferences.

Thanks for the explanation. So, logically, I’d have to ask which classes are most common in WBs on the server, or which ones I tend to encounter more often on their own. It actually sounds more like “Path of Carnage.” But I could be wron

Oh you will meet them all. Classes are represented more or less equally. Try all trees, respecting is free.

Read each skill, test on target dummies and go from there. At 18 you will not have your full kit yet, so just keep levelling. Later worry about your build by seeing what others do.
