Small scale pairing

After playing in the current meta for a while, I've noticed that blobs are becoming a growing problem and impacting the overall health of the game. I know there are many small groups that would like to be able to participate in fewer zerg fights.

What are your thoughts on dedicating one of the available pairing to this activity?

A few ideas for this game mode:
- Changing the warband size from 24 to 12
- Damage/healing debuff for clumping groups
- Disabling SOR/AAO for this zone
- This zone would be rather dedicated to more competitive veterans so maybe some sort of new type of incentives for participation like pets, cosmetics etc?

Tune down the aoe damage values and by 25-30%.
Tune down healing by 10%.
Reduce the number of targets hit back to 9, like it used to be.

This braindead blob gameplay that this game has drifted into is a tragedy. Make RoR great again!

Smaller groups already can participate in scenarios. Plenty of people enjoy the big fights.

Agreed. The blob has ruined a game designed around the 6 man.

Its all aoe. 3 button game and axes hitting 24? All aoe should only be 3 to 9. 3 for melee and 9 for casters.

As I mentioned above, I'm not proposing to change the entire game. Just adding a new, completely optional mode for people who aren't interested in large-scale combat.

mass scale is all about just that, scale.

i'm sorry you didn't get to play during peak RoR, when 5 oWBs were constantly coordinating and trying to out manoeuvre the other 5 oWBs on the enemy side.

and this is the only suitable answer to blobbing. make a 24-man with coms and out flank the enemy.

blobs are about as overrated as x-realming. an experienced, well geared, oWB can send a blob of pugs back to the warcamp real fast. i've seen this, i've done this. you want this.

frankly, leave wpvp as it is. every other MMO and their grandma is doing smallscale. you are spoiled for choice. but when it comes to massive armies duking it out, the choices become very slim.

Tune down AoE Dmg would be generaly a good thing for this game. Unfortunately brainless aoe damage is highly rewarded...

The dmg numbers that pop up with brainless use of aoe abilities, are higher than some of the single target atacks, wich is absolutely ridiculous. When you see players, who atack single targets wiht aoe abilities, and still outperform them in dps, then you know something is really wrong.
Look at choppa / slayer f.e. The numbers that you produce with dual wield are insane, compared to the 2hander. With 2hand you can do a strong crit from time to time, but its absolutely not worth it to play, compared to what you cause on dual wield. Lets not talk about "spin and win" class here again, cause we all know.....

That leads to a situation, where it is less rewarded, to push the right buttons at the right time (so called SKILL). Instead you can play brainless aoe and will lead the charts in dps and kills easyly. Look at the scoreboards. Most of the time the leaders are on aoe spec and just reap from one blob into another. Same goes for scenarios. There is no fluff damage. Its absolutely worth it, to just spam aoe, cause the numbers are insane.

IMO that is the most needed Gamechanger that RoR needs. Nerf the aoe damage, and the whole gameplay would change. Blobs would be less powerfull, cause it would be more rewarding to coordinate real assist, and not only "spam aoe on my position". Player skill and coordination inside groups and warbands would be rewarded with kills, and would lead to more challenging fights for everyone, instead of the walking dead gameplay, wich domintes the lakes since a long time now. And this would represent the core of the 6man group play again, wich this game is - and should be built around.

Great ideas. Easiest test would be to tune down warband size from 24 to 12 for a week and check results.

Agreed that mass blobs are becoming more problematic from month to month for the server (not only performance wise).

T2 zones with their little area shows this in extreme ways.
