Backlash

Can we all finally agree that backlash doesn't make any sense anymore?

It's clear that there is supposed to be scenario of high-risk / high-reward but that is simply not true anymore? It's higher risk - be adequate
There are literally no options for Sorc (Didn't play BW) than to have it ON at all times because without it your damage output is low and with it your damage output is "just okay" and that is building around said critical chance...

I mean, let's either rework it to make it a suicide button if not careful but rewarding (basically glass cannon that takes the enemy with you by ginormous nukes {lore accurate btw]) or provide meaningful spenders for it, because as of now there are really none...

Why does this class deserve to constantly deal with this while there are others that deal comparable damage without the downside of handling self-damaging resource (and also usually have a self-sustain that sorc sorely lacks) and what's worse, have even better variety in builds while Sorc basically can't do any of that..

Sorc and BW has easy access to strongest stats in game (crit chance and crit damage) and backlash is a price for it.

It's still kind of a dumb mechanic. The only people it really does anything to are soloers/pvers and pug/sc players.

Just make it build up slower, wear off quicker, and do zero backlash damage. No more spamming flame breath or whatever to enter every fight at 100. Although people with pocket/healers would hate that as they've been at 100 combustion without a care in the world for 10+ years.

Would be nice to cast Meltdown / Dhar Wind on the move
If no heal around it's impossible to kite without killing yourself
Those spells are a nice finishing in t1, they become useless after

Every dps healer seem better than bw/sorc for ST
Healers rdps do more ST dmg, can healdebuff, still heal and rez, have way more cc/survival skills...
Also, bw/sorc do 2 types of dmg but only 1 debuff

Not against Backlash as it's the lore ; they mostly need more survival options / cc / debuff
The regen set in LV was a cool idea except that it loses tons of dps
Lots of spells / tactics are quite useless, let's hope dps patch will rework them for good stuff

imagine being a new player and playing for the first time:
oh i like mages, lets play this fire mage. hmmm...okay...after killing 3 monsters, im almost dead because i hurt myself. lets try this other elven mage thingy. w8 a minute, i can deal damage and heal myself? OO. fck this fireclownbs.

its a mechanic that gets offset by your WP group hot and thats it.
tell me about 1 fort or keep that has fallen because some sorc/bw blew themselves up by accident and their healer was overchallanged in offsetting the self-dmg.
mechanic is useless and only punishes newbies, pve content outside of dungeons and people that hop in for a short session and dont have a healer in sight.

BW/sorc are memes
the self hurt mechanic is the most stupid thing ever introduced for a caster class. you basically help enemies killing yourself and on top of that you lack a reliable escape mechanism when attacked in melee.
Class is just pathetic.

The whole game needs to be taken into account when we make balancing suggestions.

It might hurt an unhealed Mage alot with this class mechanic, but if you manage to succesfully keep your 1v1 target at distance you can cover most of the selfinflicted damage with a blue HoT potion.

Also the Combustion selfhurt is close to a nonfactor in a 2-2-2 group, most hots from healers will cover the 750selfhurt with a GCD being 1.5sec and HoTs ticking every 3second on interval and Combustion/Darkmagic being 35%chance max.

Also this mechanic is funnily enough giving acces to the strongest tactic during zerg fights in LOTD under the effect of the damage/healing mitigation antizerg debuff. Where Piercing shadows and Explosive force allows you to punch out aoe morale dmg every time it triggers, bypassing the zergdebuff.
Even in normal rvr if you play a melee mage, this tactic is almost double of what other tactics provide in terms of additional damage.
Example from yesterdays 4man group we ran on order in a funnel situation. Explotion dealing 11% of my killdamage is much higher than any other tactic option https://killboard.returnofreckoning.com ... age/801356

I am excited to see what they do with the DPS patch though. Maybe we get more of an up 'n down mechanic instead of just rushing to 100 and staying there.

Ping me when Battleobjectives are becoming meaningful to the oRvR game as an incentive & tool to spread out the players and the action.
