Hello, so I am coming back after being gone for many years and this is despite not playing like I should for a game I immensely enjoy but here I am. So I have some general feel questions for you all and yes I know just play the game yourself and see but I wanted to hear what you all have to say!
First, I have always had a soft spot for Order classes but I have played both in the distant past but I typically just play Dps classes and not Healer or Tanks. I definitely still do not want to play Tank in a RvR or Sc setting but im open to Healing this time around. I really don't like the AM or RP for healer but the WP looks fun, so my questions regarding WP are, can the WP heal without meleeing? Can they solo pve content between downtimes such as PQs and just general Pve content? I guess what I am really asking is there dual spec like can I heal Scs and RvR and then switch to dps to solo Pve? I know you can respec but I don't want to pay for a respec constantly so how does that work? I simply do not want to melee while healing in PvP content, what are my options here?
Secondly regarding Dps classes. I love range classes in this game. Historically the SW had such a bad rep with dps back in the days is this still the case? Do they still hit like a wet noodle?
The Engineer was fun back in the day, I got one to 35 or 36 and had a blast playing one but seemed like they weren't top tier dps, is this still the case?
The Bright Wizard I played and had fun but found the self damaging was not really that fun, is this still the case and yes I realize this depends on if you have a pocket healer and gear + rank, I do know.
The Witch Hunter seems interesting too, played one to 20 something but not sure nowadays.
I basically want to be effective in whatever content I decide to play and want to be needed in said content, I know this largely depends on player skill and ranking up in RR but I just wanted to get a general idea where this stands in todays game with you all.
For the here and now I want to play healer and see how it goes but I dont want to melee on front lines to be able to heal party. Can I do it, is healer class dependent on a guild? Furthermore how do I even find a good guild? Discord or in game or here?

I'm sure the really informed people will answer more soon but until then I'll add my 2 cents for ya.
I don't heal on my WP but yes they can heal from the back lines without melee just fine and new upcoming changes will improve them even more. The WP is one of the better solo PvE'ers, just switch to dps and you can solo most any PQ you want.
Don't play engi but from having been on the receiving end of them while I have been playing destro lately, they can hit really hard, have every cc and with the right gear can take a beating, really annoying to fight a good and geared engi.
My SW is only around 60 but again i've been on the receiving side and a few just hit way too hard
1k+ dot ticks, 2k+ SFA and 3k+ fester. They have a warband friendly AoE spec, a melee spec that can work if you have some skill, so no they are not the garbage they were on Live.
The BW got an unneeded nerf a bit ago reducing some dps and hurting the ranged KD but is still a heavy hitter in both single target and warband friendly AoE spec. Not very solo PvE friendly and yes you still take dmg from you own mechanic.
The WH does surprisingly well with solo PQ's with the right spec you can do most. If you like the idea of choosing your fights, escaping if things go sideways and not really having a place in most warbands today the WH is a fun class. Strong single target dps with good survivability tools, being able to stealth away from the blob is just so... satisfying.

Stick with the SW, good at AOE and good at ST.
You can play a backline Salvation Warrior Priest but you cant swap to DPS without changing gear/specc.
Runepriest can swap heal/dps but the ST dmg is meh (AOE is decent)

Hey! My 2 cents!
Played them all, so:
Engi (rr52) - Magus "mirror" - Very high ST dps, very good AoE, and all of the CC. Tradeoffs: ANYTHING with a blade gets near, run like the wind, you will die and fast, until you at least get r40 PvE gear to survive a little better. At end game, annoying to fight against and you can hit top dps in scenarios easily. Also most stuff is cheaper since only two classes need your pots/gear, etc. for "ballistic attack" (other being SW).
BW (rr76) - Sorcerer "mirror" - IMO *was* best ST/AoE dmg on Order but did get nerfed, that comes with self damaging mech (you can spec to also aoe dmg others when it hits yourself too!) AND cannot, repeat cannot, solo much content in game. Your job as a BW is to make everything burn down, and buff your party. Both buffs are very good dmg proc for the party, but don't need more then one BW in any party, ever. The animations are cool asf though, and with proper healing, you can turn the tide in any situation.
WH (rr 59) - Witch Elf "mirror" (obviously) - Only stealth class on Order, and they go ALL IN on ST dmg and flee if things go "tits up". At first hard to level outside of SCs, but by 30+ you see promise of a killing machine... By rr 50, if they didn't die in the first 10 secs, you either messed your rotation up, they got lucky, or they're rr80 with all their points in defense. And you can still get away in stealth, at 50% extra speed... WH/WE's are the soloers in WAR, and as such, its hard to get a spot in anything pve or pvp. No real good group utility to pop all the time (they do have some group buffs though), but hey... stealth makes up for it all

My SW is 21 and I feel like I hit like a wet noodle. Just couple pieces of gold gear mostly green gear. No good talismans because well I'm rather new again so I hope it gets better. After few fights in Pqs or soloing pve stuff I have to stop to heal which is annoying.
