Returning player - Questions

Hey guys, I'm returning to the game after a long break and starting a new character. I was debating on dps zealot as I like healing but also wanted to throw a bit of dmg but I think it's in a bad spot? My 2nd thought was squigherder or magus as I like pet classes but I'm not sure how impactful the pets are or is most dmg coming from the player? I'm thinking something like necro from daoc is what I'm shooting for.

On another note, how long does it take to get geared up at the higher rr? I'm wondering if it's gonna be a long time to be relevant vs ppl who've been playing forever.

Also, anyone have good builds for all 3?
