Allow tanks to guard any ally

Healers can heal any ally.
Healers can heal one target with sum effect.

Why tanks can't do something like that?

Suggestion is to allow tanks to guard any ally, not party members only.

Another suggestion is to sum effects of many tanks for one ally under their guard.
E.g. 4 tanks guarding an ally reducing damage to 20% and taking 20% guarded damage also.

I may be wrong, but it seems fair and symmetrical to heals and that can be boost for tanks gameplay.

that would destroy meta even further encouranging 2h tanks over dpsers. sure, you lose damage, but take little in return.
guards is ok as it is

Wait your saying 4 tanks can all guard the same target reducing damage down to 20% And how do you propose that we kill this target? So we will need a warband to kill the guy? Im just using your words here. He is guarded by multiple tanks reducing all damage to 20% and who knows, a healer might even pop up and start healing the guy whos being guarded by all those tanks. So now you dont need one wb but seems more like you need 2 warbands to kill the guy whos guarded 4 times and being healed as well. What if This player also has trained into block, parry, dodge and disrupt with some rr points as well? So now his chance to be damaged is even further reduced. This player has close to a 0% chance to take any damage at this point. You will need 3 warbands to fight the guy now because he isnt taking much damage. And seems more like you will need about 4 warbands to actually kill the player, however this would happen very slowly. That sounds like a good idea to you?

guard dont stack, just if you guard from 2 different tanks, example: i can get guard from a blackguard and orc, that is possible but its not stack if i guard from 2 orcs or 2 blackguards, that is not possible

random guard would be nice but question is where to stop. healers or dps can't buff out of group, tanks can at least hold the line for random adds or ib/bgs help single targets with oathfriend/dark protector (bubble, elite training & buffs). also guard is powerful tool in a group, can be switched easy, has no cd or timer on it like dps or heal buffs for 1h. tanks usually find friends to guard pretty easy. better don't touch atm.

As I wrote before, I clould be wrong, but I really can't see what is the difference:
4 healers heals 1 guy. And he couldnt be killed.
4 tanks sum guard 1 guy. And he couldnt be killed also.

That would definetly be a step in the right direction if the goal is to create more dynamics, increase longevity of fights, boost immersion and make tank more enjoyable. Furthermore, there also could be more out of group group aoe heals like martyrs blessing for WP.

Then again, you'd need to look at damage, CC and morales also to compensate. Game dynamica needs overhaul, the dpsracy gearcheckish meta is stale (imo).

I think you are on to something OP

You just have to follow the logic of this brilliant suggestion and reduce healing too the more healers heal a certain target. when multiple healers focus heal someone, cut healing by 90% !
Dying is no option.

Heals can be debuff. Both incoming and outgoing.

There s no counter to guard asides from punt on the tank. No way to dispel it or debuff it (and there 'd be no point on dispel cos it has no cd)

On top of that big heals are casted and healers themself are fragile.

Free guard on anyone could be nice for tank gameplay if implemented right. Stacking guard could kill the game faster than population drop blobing and awful sc matmaching all together.
