Should we be worried...?

I just read that the Warhammer Armies Project (Unofficial 9th edition rules for Warhammer Fantasy Battle) received a cease and desist letter from Games Workshop for using GW artwork/lore in its books.

They take donations, which is the key difference here. Hence this server is 100% free to play and we are not allowed to give them any money.

They (GW) want to sell their rule books as well, having free unofficial rule books out there would be competition.
Dying is no option.

GW is gearing up to launch The Old World, e.g. the Warhammer Fantasy Battles reboot. Not surprised 9th Age is now getting hammered.

This is pretty standard and outlined in their rights usage guide. You can't use their logos or names, but you can certainly stylize a bit tongue in cheek so people know what you're really doing. We stripped out as much as we could a couple years back. Not that worried.

The C&D wasn't to shut down the whole project, it was to scrub GW property from the project, which would be specific art and copyright materials. They're likely able to continue if they can adjust the copyright covered text, remove the GW/Warhammer logos, and use their own art.

As long as GW isn't planning to release a new Warhammer Fantasy based MMO, RoR should be safe, also not monetized.
Or EA gets any stupid ideas about the fact that they own the client codebase...

Since the WAP-site has been up for 13 years without GW interfering it's likely related to the coming release of Warhammer: The Old World.
All rules and armybooks are being taken down on Friday btw.

9th Age is a different project that went separate ways from anything GW-related years ago.

I know, it's the fan-made "9th edition" of Warhammer Fantasy Battles after GW stopped the official game with 8th editio/End Times. GW are now making a new tabletop wargame set in the Warhammer Fantasy world so 9th age will now be on their radar, especially if they're using GW art/assets. I always thought 9th Age was being smart and avoiding using any GW stuff directly but clearly not.

edit: actually, is this a new C&D or something that happened in the past? I can't find anything on the 2 links you put (the blog and the random discord which isn't public)

To clarify:
- The 9th Age is a project based on/inspired by WFB 8th edition but with no GW assets at all afaik.
- Warhammer Armies Project (WAP) is a project with homemade armybooks for both official 8th edition and their own unofficial 9th edition. WAP makes extensive use of GW assets in their books.

The creator of the WAP books received a letter from the GW legal team requesting that he remove all GW artwork from his books. This was posted on the WAP discord and Facebook group.

Ohh I'm dumb, my brain saw "Unofficial 9th edition rules for Warhammer Fantasy Battle" and immediately jumped to 9th Age. Ignore most of my posts above :D
