Lower my XP rate?

Hello All!

I returned to the game (for the second time) a few weeks ago.

Isn't there some item I can buy that will temporarily lower my rate of XP gain?

A friend of mine and I are leveling at roughly the same time. But sometimes I want to play for a bit when he can't....mostly so I can PVE to get gold. But I don't want to blow way on past him in level.

Yes, Instructor's Boon, bought from Quartermasters in (almost?) every Warcamp and in the capitals.
