California, standing by

Hey, guys! I just recently got the urge to try WAR again and stumbled across this community. I loved WAR for the game it was back in the day and I'm excited to try it again now.

A little background on me: My gaming history is not extensive. I've enjoyed playing League of Legends and WoW for a while (I played League through season three and the beginning of the most recent one, I think they're on five, and WoW for the decade it's existed). I was good, but not amazing, at both. I haven't played either for some months now.

Off the computer I'm similarly one dimensional. I've been training to fight competitively in escrima (a Filipino style of stick and knife fighting) and have met with some success this year. Most of my time offline is spent at the gym, eating, or asleep.

I've got my EMT certs, but never managed to get a job with them. I worked for a small time as a CPR Instructor before I was scooped up into a hospice position - something I never saw myself doing, but am glad I got experience in. After setting aside most of my paycheck I decided this year would be a recovery year.

I guess the only questions I have are:

Is it possible to duel on this server? I enjoy dueling as a method of reinforcing muscle memory and learning my class.

I'm torn between the following choices: Chosen (2H DPS), Choppa, Marauder, or Black Orc. I know it's a mess of options and they don't all serve the same role, but I'm hoping people can give me compelling arguments for one or at least a rough overview of what makes each unique and either powerful or otherwise.

Thanks for taking the time to read my introductory novel. See y'all in game.

Hey Trenk, my WAR meta is outdated but I can probably give you an general outline:

Chosen (2H DPS)
You will enjoy yourself in T1, good defences, good damage. People WILL bitch at you if you don't respec 1h tank later on, and quite frankly 2H chosen is valid only if geared heavily or is ganking lower ranks. Also twisting auras can get really old, trust a veteran kots on this.

Black Orc
You get some nice utility, you're a pain to shake, and you can even do some decent damage. All that while being a massive hulking wall. I believe that people will agree that it's the best tank on the destro side. Sorry Blackguards. (a DPS BG might be what you're looking for).

Choppa
Your defenses are meh, your utility is meh, but boy can you do melee damage. You do need to learn what stats to stack, and preferably get a nice tank to guard you, but I think that this is the easiest class to get into. Think old Fury warrior glass cannon specs.

Marauder
More difficult to play properly then a Choppa, with respect to choppas and slayers. Somewhat lower DPS, less AoE, more utility. Really fun mechanics. One of the best art styles imho.

Also bear in mind that just as say WSG twinks work under different rules then AV, so do different archeotypes T1>T4

Hey no prob! Wouldn't be fun killing any of you destruction scum if you didn't know how to play properly. :)

But seriously, try out different classes. I went from years of playing rogues and warlocks to enjoying combat healers and tanks in WAR. Go figure.

Welcome among us !

Personally, I recommend you the Choppa. I explain : it has downsides, of course... It has almost no armor and is not subtle at all. In addition, versatility is not his thing either ! But damn, this is the class that can do MORE damage, and just for that, I love it !

Im playing Mara , and i especially recommending this clas to You.
This class needs a cold blood, for fast mutation changing, or properly detaunt when all Bright Wizards want to burn you.
Need good reflect to be in properly place in a good time.
Last but not least, Mara give me a lot of fun too , even i dont have any skill on him:))

Thanks for the greetings and answers, guys!

So far I've gotten a Choppa to level 5 and a Marauder to 7. I have a feeling I'll like the Choppa when I have some friends to play with (I really started to notice my need for a tank), but for right now I'm enjoying Marauder as a solo option. I love the resource for Choppas, though, so he's definitely gonna stay on my radar.
