Launcher gives an error message and closes

Hey all,

I'm trying to launch RoR for the first time. I've given the launcher and the updater administrator and allowed them through the firewall and whatnot, but I keep getting this error message:

If it helps, here's what happens when I open the launcher:
1. Launcher opens
2. log-in info is there, "Connect" button is grayed out
3. Nothing happens for like 30 seconds
4. Error message pops up, when I close the error message the launcher closes as well.

When I open the updater, it opens at 30%, stays there for a few seconds, then builds up to 100%, opens the launcher, and then above happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I don't know if it's okay to self-reply like this but I am significantly more confused than I was previously. Here's the update:

I reinstalled RoR completely. I opened the launcher and got the exact same error message, but the launcher ran perfectly fine this time despite it. It downloaded all the files it was supposed to, but the error message is still there. So now, it seems like the launcher should work perfectly fine, but the error message won't let me interact with it at all. I get a Windows error noise whenever I try to click on anything. Closing the error message will close the launcher.

So, that's the pickle I'm in. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try restarting your computer, and having RoR be the first thing you open on boot?

Testing a theory here.

i have the same issue as void brother. I did what you said about restarting comp and launching the ror first. I'm not getting the error now but. the laucher says its downloading all of the 171809 files. it also when started put 16 different files on my desktop. the down load is still currently running

sorry i should have said this in the first post. i have already been playing the game for about a month when i started getting this error. i had the issue with the damage and percent values not showing on my abilities. so i followed the directions on discord about replacing the file with the new one. that worked fine. i turned the pc off when i was done playing that night. next time i launched the launcher i started getting the error. im not trying to hijack voidbrothers thread. just tring to give more info. also keep in mind that i am someone who bearly knows much more then where power button is on a computer

Huh, it worked. I went ahead and played for a bit too, no issues as far as I can tell.

So a little update on where I'm at: Restarting my computer and starting up RoR first thing allows it to run perfectly fine. I can launch and play with no issue. However, if I close and reopen the launcher later I'll get the same error message. If I leave it open, the error message pops up sooner or later. So basically, every time I want to play, I have to restart my computer. Which, you know, I'm willing to do, but I'd rather not, ya know?
