Can the server be taken down by EA?

Hello!

I've recently jumped on the hype wagon like most of the active people and been enjoying the game for the last couple of days. I never played the original but I see why people miss it so much. The devs of this server are doing a spectacular job as far as I've seen. However, one question doesn't get out of my head. Can the server be taken down by EA and why? I believe that all WoW Vanilla/Classic players remember when Nostalrius was shut down by Blizzard back in 2016 after it peeked in popularity. Since this server started getting a lot of attention I have a fear that EA could get its greedy hands on it as they are still the original publishers of the game. I'd like to hear what other people think about this topic.

Game is dead, license has run out, EA can`t get any money from that.
And last but not least.
The game has no DLC cashgrab.

Well that's good to hear that EA doesn't have license to this beauty. So the IP belongs to Games Workshop then I guess?

Pretty sure they still own it, the big thing is that this server being up doesn't lose them anything, so it wouldn't be worth the time to go after it. There isn't a live server anymore that this would be potentially be pulling subs from, which is what would make them go after it.

Yeah, I guess that's correct. Jealousy could be one of the reasons but other than that there really aren't any other reasons.

unless GW plans on making a new MMO or re-release the game. that's the only way id see this getting taken down.

that's why Blizzard went after private servers was because they were bringing WoW classic back.

There is an Warhammer MMO in the making just for your information.

We take every precaution possible to give neither GW or EA a reason to be hostile towards us.

Regarding GW, they have a much friendlier IP usage guideline than we've ever seen in the past. We highly respect the lore, properly credit GW as IP holders, and reject any money or support in any way. You can find their guidelines here.

EA is not a clear cut case on the use of their assets, as they have no policy, instead we do much the same as we do with GW and hope our total lack of monetization will be enough to stay off their radar. I suspect from their perspective if there is no financial benefit, and there's no damage to their brand, the potential for a lawsuit would be a net loss.

There is no reason to wring your hands over what the future may bring, aside from this. As long as we are able to, Return of Reckoning will be here to push the limits of Warhammer Online.
