Originally I had it in mind to post this in the Dark Elf forums, but since I'm mostly talking about match ups in general(for the WE) I think this would be a better place to have this discussion.
I'm only a 30 WE and I have an elementary understanding of certain match ups and tactics. But nothing specific. Also, from what I understand, there is a BIG power gap in T4 between RRs and from 31-40. So lets just talk about 40/40 and going forward.
For scenarios, what do WEs excel at(and don't), what are your tactics? 1v1 in a vacuum, which match ups are generally good(or bad)? What separates the good WEs from the great ones?
My guess is that I would have to kick it old school to learn the match ups; Through experience, studying or playing the class. So I'm just curious as to how everyone else, regardless of class, got good. But specifically I wanna look through the lens of a WE.

Witch Elfs and Witch Hunters very probably suffer the most from the current levelling scheme, particularly in T4. You have to get to a high level to get good scores. WEs/WHs can do well in any SC as a flanker, and can hit the backline without being detected by mdps.

If you can't do descent damage with current lvl/gear focus on assisting to main dps in scenario by spamming debufs like healdebuf, toughteness debuff and probably crit reduction on order's main dps. Best what you can do is to stay in melee blob and spam both healdebuffs on healers.
if talk about WH there no a single reason to play him if you can just roll WL with med armor and pounce. High mobility + ability to kill in few seconds without huge risk.

Sadly, this guy speaks the truth. Play as a backup to other main dps while you gear yourself out. Once geared (conq+) you can hold your own pretty well against most, not all, classes.bichka wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 1:54 pm If you can't do descent damage with current lvl/gear focus on assisting to main dps in scenario by spamming debufs like healdebuf, toughteness debuff and probably crit reduction on order's main dps. As for WHs, I came back and have him a try (rr74)...well I gotta say, my WE (rr66) feels so much better. The BAL nerf was enough to really be noticeable and EW (my favorite WH finisher) just doesn't feel it does enough. I would LOVE if the devs added sets later on that had set bonuses that slightly altered certain spec abilities. Like a 7 piece bonus that added a stat absorb to EW (like half the value of the debuff or something). I'd be all over that.

- Stay back a bit until others are engaging, pile on to softer targets near the front line, or wait for openings on squishies who are over extending.
- If you see a tank heading to the opponents back lines, stealth and follow along and assist. Even high level WE do this, and it makes a good WE.
- Use your Kiss of Death (50% outging heal) to nerf heals, even if you're not downing healers yourself.
- Try to Spec Black Lotus Blade (50% incoming heals) to down any target your team is working on.
- Use your Detaunt, always.
- If youre getting undue attention, back out immediately. You'll make them overextend if they stay on you, you'll give the healers a break, and you'll give your own abilities a chance to get off of cool down and restart your rotation. When backed off, throw daggers to snare so you're still contributing
- If you're playing a team which pushes backlines often, stay stealthed near healers and place defense.
- Ignore the DPS chart
What separates the good WEs from the great ones?
- Change kisses when appropriate.
- Don't be afraid to back out and reset
- Use your detaunt
- Use your detaunt
- Use potions
- Use a mod which helps show if you've been detaunted, and if your target has immunities up. This will help you choose targets or switch targets. Knowing your opponent has knock down immunity is CLUTCH
- If you know an enemy MDPS is riposte specced, limit engagements until you have help, or if you can get a KD in
- Sever blessing. You're stripping HoT, or other buffs, and allowing your or you team to be more effective

I agree to an extent. I think invisibility is a bit underrated on the forums, on any other class it would be considered OP. Picking on overall utility, you'd pick one of maybe four classes.bichka wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 1:54 pm

WHs/WEs just have very niche roles and you are basically taking higher risks which requires a lot of deaths to learn to play the class well. The main issue is that they are anti-social classes and many dont even join groups/do SCs. From the high level WHs/WEs I see, they seem to stay hidden a lot and look for opportunities to kill the opposing AoE dps (or healers if they are isolated), sneak into keeps to hit oil, and gank stragglers (anything with med/light armour). All important functions, and the renown you get from killing them suggests they do very well (on par or better than ganking shammies).
A group of five WEs or WHs would be a very powerful gank group, kill everything in seconds and in RvR could effectively harass entire warbands if you pick the right targets and the right time.
In SCs, I do agree that you need to perform slightly better, but Ive never seen anyone in game turn away WHs/WEs because they are not a viable mdps. I have seen WEs and WHs do well, and can be useful in taking BOs without being seen.
