So it has been a very long time since I last played warhammer online and I am looking into info about classes to help me decide what I want to play, would like to stick with one class for a while. When WAR was live I played mostly a white lion but dabbled in other classes. I kind of feel like I want to play a squig herder but I don't know how good they are or if I will just get annihilated all the time, then again I don't really know how any of the classes are. I remember chosen being pretty fun and I do like their aesthetics and such, I'd like to be able to do decent damage while either being survivable or just hard to catch. It also seems like Order could use some help with numbers.

Game changed a lot from live, i suggest you to create a character and try I by yourself.
Anyway which class is better for you depends from what you want, ranges squig have a lot of utility and good finisher but need a party to be usefull, melee squig is a really strong class and have much more chances to survive solo. If you want survivability you should think to do a tank, healer and dps don't have much survivability (if taking them alone). Dps tank can do good damage but still need a party to perform well, with a couple of exception like Skullgrim

How does a melee focused warrior priest hold up? Was also thinking about maybe a black orc, wish I could use a dark elf mount on other races since it is my favorite one.

melee WP is a free kill for destro actually. devs made it a back up healer

Nope: Wrath Priest will beat every destro premade currently, and Grace is fine up to 18v18; just don't be a Kamikaze idiot with 30% ctbc.
