Magus vs. Engi what are the key differences?

Are Engis able to do AoE dots much like Magus for example? Or is Engi better suited for direct damage.

The key difference comes down to damage types, group utility, and overall feel and play-style.

Engi's tend to be more survivable than magus's are. A lot of this comes down to a smaller sneaky character model for sniping, better armor values, and a very solid self heal in keg. Not that magus don't get some nice tanky tactics, and a great self wounds buff. Being a big tall model on a disk makes them a big target. Engi also has a great morale 1 to save yourself when you get range focused, which magus lacks.

While both get magnet and staggers, Engi edges ahead on utility since they have a cast time debuff via tactic, and a tactic that can reduce dodge / parry / block.

For dps while Engi isn't horrible Magus tends to come out ahead. They have better damage types for AoE, Engi gets split, and there are very few aoe armor debuffs around on order side. So a lot of physical abilities don't do as much. ST engi has a nice dot tactic for snipe and on soft armor targets they can do a lot, you also get some auto-attack hits here and there which help but overall I prefer magus ST with the crit tactic. A magus doesn't need to be as picky on targets, and can be a brutal sniper to even tanks, where engi's have a hard time even max WS doing any damage to a tank.

Both are fun to play and are great for roaming, and WB play. Overall they are extremely similar, but have a few differences since Engi is a physical ranged dps, so shares morales / tactics with SH / SW, while magus is a magical ranged dps, and shares morales / tactics with sorc / BW.

Aye. Karast summs it up very well. Utility, AoE and ST differences.
The engi as a dwarf has it easier to hide in bushes or undergrowth. The Tall Magus on his purple disc is very difficult to hide.

But it is the opposite with Elfs and Goblins. I have seen SH who have hide in a tree at Gromrill crosssing when a whole order warband took the BO. On a skinny SW you can't do that.

Dodge vs Disrupt
Dodge is way better than Disrupt.
Magus do however have slightly better ST damage
