in pvp you should not focus to much on armor, what you have standard as a tank is prob more then fine and add in one set bonus with armor from ruin or redeye gives you plenty (ontop of that you prob using a armor pot aswell.) in pve that's a whole diff story. stacking armor and avoidens is key alongside having 0 chance to be crit. Now back to pvp, for the basic except having enough avoidens ofc you should have a good amount of toughness (toughness works on everthing so it's a great source of mittigation) so for pvp on a tank toughness is king, capping it should be a goal for all tanks.. off tanks is a diffrent story. thinking of synergies is a good way to buff things with a good amount of bang for the buck... Take the blackguard as a example and it's tactic Terrifying foe wich can add 45% of the existing toughness you already have to you for up to 20sec with 100 hate (pushing it way beond soft cap). wich means if you already have 1k toughness you gett a bigger buff from it then if you would with only stacking 600 toughness. so thinking of how your class can synergies with your own abilities and buffs is a good way to go in a attempt to maximies tankiness.

Well with my kobs with SnB I had around 4k armor unbuffed and softcaped toughnes. With 20rr points in parry, 20rr points in dodge/disrubt, 10rr points in block, All rezists around 1k I felt verry tanky even without vigiliance.

It was sayd before stacking armor over the top is not life saver. Insted I would pump avoidance, toughnes, rezists and HP pool.

Do 50% armor pen on most melee.

But i think you're good to go with that amountyou have.
yeah, I don'T even remember what I said lol. But 6900 is too much. You lose on too much other things considering :
1- WE ignore armor
2- Mara basically ignore armor
3- choppa have insane penetration from WS.
4- Sorc, magus, sham, and zealot ignore armor.

Over a lot of tests, anything above 5500-6000 seem like a bad investment. I know I did the maths with all the calculation swapping +180 armor talis for +23 toughness, +80 resist, +23 wouds and all that. Can'T find it though.

The thing is, the more you stack, the more you lose vs high WS or armor ignore ability.

as an FYI, the amount of armor you need to realistically be capped at 75% mitigation mostly all the time vs 50% armor pen and a plethora of armor debuff is over 9000.

So, since 9000 is ridiculous, the way I decide how much I use is by calculating from bad damage dealers such as 2h tank or dps dok. They run around 30% armor pen (30% pen, so I mitigate 70% of it or 0.7). So with a single debuff of -1000 armor (typical of BO/BG or morale only), I reverse engineer what I need. 75% mitigation is achieved at about 3300 armor so...
(?-1000)x0.7 = 3300
so ?=(3300/0.7)+1000 = 5714. Which will leave me right at the cutoff of 75% mit. Hence anything within reasonable margin of this number is good enough for me. This number also has the advantage of being achievable and leaving room to invest in other things such as wounds, strength or toughness :p

This is more or less how i go about it. Only my opinion.
U are correct
I have done a Test with a destro girl already and almost same result

Take 5/5.5k armor as setstone rest go into toughness, crit reduction, hardly concession and avoidance as see fit.

Rememeber hardly concession work as and can in place of armor but with the advantage to also reduces magical dmg and working vs classes that ignore armor.

What i auggest is take hardly concession ditch res talisman then yiu can use res talismams alot to invrease back dmg from hc debuff or increase armor. Such is the well implementation of hardly concesaion so that gain 2 loose 1 i stead just gain 1. Hc is a must for any tank which is looking for survability.

Ive been on vacation from War lately , only played 9 months out of the last 2 1/2 years so maybe things have changed .

But as others have stated you need more than just high armor , you need a mix of armor, toughness, parry, disrupt, resists, low chance to be crit etc.

On my KOBS i admit i havent played him in over a year , need to dust him off , but i run with self buffs , 790 toughness which helps lower all damage , and is great for low damage attacks, and aoe splash damage , all resist 900 + , 2 % chance to be crit, around 8200 wounds , with self armor buff, around 5200 armor , and i picked up vigilance.

Don't forget about reduced armor penetration items. I run 4xFleshrenderer rings (KV lair boss), which is a total of 8% reduced armor pen. Plus the defensive sc 2h weapon gives another 4% I think (I usually use subj for the speed proc). Warning: using 4x fleshrenderer will leave you low on spirit resist.

invest in crit chance reduction. Anyway you must have 0% for pve if you going to do some and it's best way to improve defense here. Since no trivial blows implemented.

your main killers is WE/Sorcs, both is highly depend on crits.
