Bolster Gear Clarification

Is the bolster a modifier of your gear or a stat template (or a mix of the two?)

leveing right now i had planned on making a level 18 gear set and then a level 28 set to keep within the limitations of the bolsters but if its a stat template I wont spend as much gold worrying about it.

A lot of people say the paper doll tooltips with bolster are incorrect, some say they are, not sure whats the actual best tl;dr for leveling up and taking advantage of the bolster when you cant twink your toon.

Thanks!

Wear the best gear for any given rank and your bolster will be best. Bolster are more effective at the lower end of a level bracket.

The paper doll is correct but it's based on your level. Hover over intelligence and check the ability power of a bolstered level 29 BW vs a level 40 BW, for example, and they should be similar, even though the 29 BW will have lower intelligence. Wear gear within 5 levels of you and your bolster will be fine.

Oh...

I think that I was confusing de-bolstering information then for level 40s?

ie: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18814
"Tier 2/3: No more than 13 mastery points spent, no more than 28 renown points spent,
no gear equipped above 'Minimum Rank' 28 and YES talismans in gear."

There was also an infographic that had information for level 18 as well.

I guess for non 40's, dont worry so much about what gear you have or mastery/renown you spend??

De-bolstering is no longer relevant. Basically everyone 16+ is bolstered when they enter the lakes.

Do those requirements come into play still though? like not spending xyz renown/mastery points and having a cap on gear level/talismans?

IE if im a level 25 and are using rank 25 talismans/armor/weapons do I no longer quality for the big T2 bolster (the infograph showed 18 as the cap along with some renown and mastery restrictions)?

For rvr there are only 2 level brackets left, 1-15 for t1 rvr and 16-40 for t2-4 rvr.
When t4 has an active zone, you can go there with rank 16 and fight together with others higher than your rank.
For scenarios you have more level brackets.

Right and there are no requirements for gear or renown. The only requirement is your level. If you go into a t1 zone above level 16, you'll chicken. If you go into a t2+ zone below level 16, you won't bolster
