What to play? Destro

Hey everyone,

I just started RoR and am loving it. I currently have a shaman (which is what I played on live) and love being healing focused and keeping my teammates alive. I am now looking to start an alt but am torn. I really like melee and being in the fray. That being said, I also like to have some survivability while still being a threat. I am trying to decide between BO, Chosen (2h. So I could do some damage), or marauder.

My worry for marauder is I would be too squishy. Being a healer I have seen a lot of marauder go down fast, but I know their dps is by far the best of my choices.

For chosen, I have heard 2h is not very viable but SnB does very little damage. Would a dps specced chosen have survivability while still having enough dps to keep order on their feet? P.S. I love their look but I'm trying not to let that affect my choice haha.

Lastly BO, they seem like a good candidate, but again, can I balance dps and survivability?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

All mdps are essential freenown unless guarded - the closest you can get to an independant mdps is deftard Mara, by virtue of the Settra proc on the Monstro mutation, mind you everything dies if properly assisted on.
The 2h loldps tanks are goodish against pugs, but are mostly used for their utility - outside of a group they are, too, freenown... as is every class.
The biggest issue on 2h loldps tanks is undoubtly the gear/RR-gating, below RR60 and without atleast close to BiS they tend to melt to guarddamage whilst still putting little-to-no pressure onto your opposition.
If you want pewpew, run a class that is meant to pewpew. Tanks are meant to bring utility, dps is second if not last in terms of priority ~ you certainly want to have mastered guardfloating and punting (CC'ing in general) before you even jokingly attempt to loldps.
The only exception to the rule are SMs, but they are out of question as you want to play destro.

If you want to "main" a tank, have multiple gear sets, including 2hd.

Depending on the class you than choose you will use it more or less often depending on grp.

For an alt played sparsely, SnB Black Orc is your best choice to mix survivability and dps. Then i'd say marauder, it can function well as a defensive mdps, even with low renown/gear.

Chosen would play great defensively at low renown/gear. But forget its offense spec unless you plan on investing a ton of time on it to get BiS gear + lots of renown.

My 2 cents

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I felt like I may be asking for too much as far as mixing mdps and survivability on a less-played alt. I suppose I still have some thinking to do as far as do I want to lean more towards dps or survivability.

It's the eternal balance. Personaly I go full glass cannon on dps. If I rolled tank I'd go full survive.

I hate to compromise.

Actually its possible to have a mix of both survieability and dps

If you play SnB black orc

they hit surprisingly hard for tanks tanks to various tactics and abilities, additionally they can bolster their defenses vs ranged with hold the line! and investing renown points in deft defender and a secondary "panic button" in the form of cant hit me

While still providing some nice utility

As a person whom plays solo quite a bit, i switched over from my choppa and mara to a black orc and the only thing i miss is having a heal debuff
