In any game when I come across over-the-top mouthy types I always think to myself - One day they will make the mistake of talking like that in the real world and get their head rocked. That said I haven't had this experience in RoR yet, thankfully. The community is actually very nice here, though misunderstandings will happen, lets chalk your own bad experience up to that.
Don't let this experience ruin it for you : ]

Re: Feeback for Veteran/regular players of ROR
Sorry to hear of your crappy experience almost out the gate... what a bummer
I fall prey to idiots talking crap, too. Tough to be thin-skinned, ESPECIALLY in W.A.R. (RoR). Team up with like-minded players. The hard-asses (on our side [whomever your chosen side be]) will usually do a good job bolstering us for the mouthy onslaught while showing the opposition a thing or two on "How to be Properly Flippant" in RoR.
Try not to make the mistake I did: saying things in public chat that, anywhere in irl, would have ensured someone comin' at meh
cos of the nasty stenchmouth I just puked on them. 1. that gives the bullies an 'in'; don't open that door, 2. you may realize much later (like I did) that had you known who it was behind that mouthy alt (because you may have followed them in W.A.R. forums, and had deep respect for them in that realm) you may have approached their BS quite differently, 3. you don't want regrets going in (trust me; when super nasty shyte's been said publically, there's no taking it back, and if you DO find it's someone whom you did admire, you'll be disappointed with yourself, AND them for allowing it to go that far...), so turn off Advice channel, and /say if needed. Stay chattin' in /p when in sc's, and 4. find a guild of like-minded people. Group w/ a bunch of them first. Shop around and don't be afraid to say so.
That said, there's some really 'tight' guilds on both sides. Some are one-realm only (either Destruction OR Order ONLY) and some take a much lighter approach and strive to put balance where and when it needs to be, and both types, imo, do a good job at their respective goals. Check the Guild Forums and when in game, just ask for a member(s) of said guild, but go in w/a few on your list: this still "alpha" and depending on your playtime, results may vary.
Most important: do NOT give in/up because of jerks. Fight them with fire, or silence. They understand nothing else. And RoR needs players, maybe now more than ever, who're willing to remember that without players, of all kinds, our home away from home dies... again. Once was enough
Hope you find your niche in RoR. Good Hunting!
