So recently there has been a bit of an issue with people understanding how to tank the keep lord properly on order side. The lord keeps resetting over and over and eventually the other team shows up and wipes you or people get fed up and leave. As we all know, healers are pretty much guaranteed to draw aggro on the lord because of how much hate heals generate. This fact gets complicated even more when there are enemy players around forcing healers to pre-heal, spam heal, etc. to avoid wipes to enemy players. This gets even further compounded when you have some healing classes that require heals/crit heals to get certain buffs up on other players. Please note, I am not criticizing the mechanic here at all, I am just giving you advice on how to work with it using a tried and true method.
Simply do the following:
1. Have your healer run normal RvR tactics (blessing, echo, etc.) I would suggest an RP because it is very easy to over heal to keep aggro and being able to proc your absorbs will help a lot.
2. Have a tank throw guard on you.
3. Get hots up on as many people as possible and engage the lord.
4. Drop your AP rune on cool down and spam group heal. Also use your bouncing heal on cool down as this will jump to random players and help generate hate.
5. Once you are sure you have good aggro, face away from the lord in the center of the lord room and detaunt on cool down while continuing to spam group heal, bounce heal, and also hotting random people.
6. Profit
Using the above method, you should easily be able to maintain aggro, heal your group through any enemy attacks, and avoid resetting the lord. Just a couple pieces of advice:
1. If you are the healer and not the one set up to tank with guard. Don't heal unless you absolutely have to.
2. If you are the healer tanking the lord. Stay off the ramps and away from the archways.
3. Do NOT run your PvE tactic to generate less hate.
This has been a PSA from your friendly neighborhood rune priest.

I hope this is the right place for this post, because it is also true for Destruction.

Re: Guide - Order keep lord tanking
Order needs all the help it can get with this. Right now the tactic seems to be yelling at someone to tank in chat and then everyone in the wb spam healings while the lord does the benny hill act around the lord's room. Also, the lord seems to hit much harder now, so people should keep that in mind if they attempt to run away, you will not make it.

Re: Guide - Order keep lord tanking
Yeah, it is better to just embrace the current mechanics than fighting it. Tanks can't pull aggro from healers if they have to heal a lot regardless of tactics being ran. Just need all the other healers to lay off healing unless needed until the healertank has enough hate... then it doesnt matter what you do.
This also works to keep your groups alive while fighting the enemy without worrying about a lord reset as long as the healer and guard stay in the room and off the ramp. Worked flawlessly several times with me tanking the lord (on an under geared RP... )
I never lost aggro and the lord never moved from the center of the room because I didn't.

Re: Guide - Order keep lord tanking
This imo is quite sad that tanks in definition can’t do what there meant too .
But it is what it is till there is another change ,
I hope the heal Argo is tweaked down a little .

Re: Guide - Order keep lord tanking
This thread shouldn't be a discussion about the mechanic itself as this is simply a guide to work within the current system. However, I do think the intentions are good, but like all software development good intentions and the reality of your user base / real world situations often disconnect.

Re: Guide - Order keep lord tanking
So under this theory, what would the ideal group set up be? There is the healer who is both tanking because he has the aggro and is healing with grp heal, there is 1 tank with guard up on the healer, while the rest of the wb just tries to gun the lord down and generally not mess it up?
This post is the best suggestion that I have heard and thanks for the advice, but I am skeptical of the ability of a pug wb to pull it off without someone pulling aggro via overhealing or a rouge tank throwing taunt.

The correct class to tank lord should be tank. Any other approaches are incorrect and sooner or later will end badly

^^ Ok fair enough and understood.Hargrim wrote:The correct class to tank lord should be tank. Any other approaches are incorrect and sooner or later will end badly.
In that case I would ask the OP or anyone else if they have any advice on how tanks should attempt to survive these lords and retain aggro now that healing is a factor because I have really been struggling with this since patch? My experience before this was that ruin/anni and some decent talis on a tanky snb build would keep me up against the keep lord with healer support. Now that is certainly not the case and I die every time I attempt to tank the lord even though I have upgraded my gear, rr, and talis since the "old days."

I hope so, but for now, we have to work with the mechanics the way they currently are.Hargrim wrote:The correct class to tank lord should be tank. Any other approaches are incorrect and sooner or later will end badly.
