DX9 Absolutely Required?

Is DX9 the ONLY valid version of DX that WAR will work under? I have many other games that use newer versions of DX and I am not sure how to swap between the necessary ones, so was hoping I could use the DX I have currently.

I had to install nothing besides WAR and the launcer itself, like how it's described in the instructions on the frontpage.

Even switched gfx cards meanawhile for the 3rd time. also ATI -> Nvidia -> Nvidia.

Should work as far as I can tell without changes.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you know how I could revert back to the newest version of DX then? I went ahead and followed the instructions to the T, so I downloaded DX9, and the game is working fine, but I don't want to mess up other games.

The different versions of DirectX are separate installs. You don't lose a newer one by installing an older one, and it won't affect WAR to have all of them installed as it is only going to use DX9 anyway. Chances are, if you have a bunch of games on your PC to begin with, several of them required DX9 as well, and it was already installed.

I installed RoR on the hospital computer and didn't have to put direct x9 on the comp. I just DLed d3dx9_34.dll from the forum(viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2889), and put it in install folder. bam no more directx issues. comp is running windows 7, and I Didn't have admin so I couldn't install Dx
