Block and block rating formula
Block and block rating formula
Can someone describe how it count? Does .getstats show real numbers? Does block rating work as intended? lvl 24 scenario shield with 257 block rating and +1 block stats gives only 6.1% chance to block for lvl 27 tank and getstats shows only 1% block. If I spent 10 renown points for block(+6%) getstats shows 7%. I think on live achieve about 20% block rate without renown investment was daily basis. Here is impossible even with full defender renown speced in t3.

Re: Block and block rating formula
It is sad but shield is only worth for hold the line and for some classes, when they spec for a block enhancing skill to stack block to noticeable values.
Dying is no option.
Re: Block and block rating formula
this is all just stuff i've heard:
- there's soft avoidance and hard avoidance. soft avoidance is almost always beaten by enemy offensive stat (here strength) (+ballistic intel?)
- sources of hard avoidance are renown skills and flat +% on gear, these do not get ignored by offensive stats
- soft avoidance are from stats (parry from WS) and i believe a shields block rating is also soft
- slayers and often BWs do not care about block (dunno bout vs destro)
i guestimate my block simply by adding renown block + gear bonuses
it's not perfectly accurate but a pretty close indicator of guard dmg block %, vs being direct targeted there's just too many other factors

Re: Block and block rating formula
Natural avoidance (= avoidance gained through stat conversion) is directly countered by mainstat, true avoidance (= static avoidance on gear, RR, abilities,...) is countered by static strikethrough on gear and alike.
Block chance is nigh irrelevant (note: even the tiniest percentage of avoidance outscales other stats by a metric shitton, as you not just negate damage with avoidance, but statuseffects aswell) in terms of mitigating normal incoming attacks, HOWEVER guard-damage is handeld as incoming attack with mainstat of 1 (to allow for proper mitigation, damage is unchanged by this), i.e. block accounts for guard-damage and yields a good mitigation, especially if paired with parry.
Abbd.:
Your charactersheet is far from accurate in any case.
To see your effective stats use .getstats.
Note: .getstats 'neglects' natural avoidance and generally displays your stats as if you were facing someone with softcapped mainstat, hence it only displays true avoidance.

Re: Block and block rating formula
So block rating on shield doesnt count as "hard" avoidance, can be negleted by mainstat and thats why it is not displayed in .getstats?Darosh wrote:Natural avoidance (= avoidance gained through stat conversion) is directly countered by mainstat, true avoidance (= static avoidance on gear, RR, abilities,...) is countered by static strikethrough on gear and alike.

So block chance it self isnt represented by "block rating", but ONLY from items with +x% to block? That is strange... why the block rating stat on shield even exist than? 250 ish block rating is showed in character sheet as around 5% block chance and getstats shows 0% block chance. Thats kinda strange.

it's a pve thing, i believe it all adds up vs mobsWdova wrote:why the block rating stat on shield even exist than? 250 ish block rating is showed in character sheet as around 5% block chance and getstats shows 0% block chance. Thats kinda strange.
Re: Block and block rating formula
To break it down in short terms, there are three scenarios you are looking at:Wdova wrote:So block rating on shield doesnt count as "hard" avoidance, can be negleted by mainstat and thats why it is not displayed in .getstats?Spoiler:

1.) You face dps with softcapped mainstats = block you gain per block rating is almost entirely negated.
2.) You face dps and tanks without softcapped mainstat = block you gain per block rating is partially negated.
3.) You take guard damage = block you gain per block rating is NOT negated.
Iirc there is hardly any effective difference to live, tanks are in a very good spot after all and the absolute extremes are being sucessfully prevented.

Ok I got it. Thx for explainin this. I always thought block rating cannot be negleted by main stats.Darosh wrote:To break it down in short terms, there are three scenarios you are looking at:Wdova wrote:So block rating on shield doesnt count as "hard" avoidance, can be negleted by mainstat and thats why it is not displayed in .getstats?Spoiler:
