This is in no way a troll thread. I'm just returning to WAR and I'd really like some people to educate me more on the Magus class.
Aside from wanting to be a special snowflake, why would anyone play a Magus over a Sorc? Is there any area (RvR) where a Magus really outshines a Sorc? Does a Magus even have a viable role or useful spot in T4 PvP?
Kinda looking for a reason to play one (other than the uniqueness factor)... can you guys give me any, or is the class just really that bad?

Re: [Magus] Why would anyone play Magus over Sorc?
The only guild I ever saw using one legitimately in a competitive 6v6 way was pred/fusion during the proc meta where I think it was Peter on magus and they played around the stationary/long range aspect in CW.
Basically I think magus could be great in certain maps over sorc where stationary defensive positions are available.
But since competitive is pretty much dead as **** I wouldn't put any eggs in that basket.
Other than that rift is an essential warband level ability that works in any half decently ran warbands with voice comms.
From a pug standpoint magus is much much better 1v1 and solo in the lakes or in scenarios due to less reliance on healing. Magus also curb stomp groups with low healing output which seems to be 90% of order pug ads these days.

Ok, so, Magus might do OK in PUG scenarios and solo PvP roam?

Yes, and organized warband play where rift is being played around.
It's not might do well against pugs, it will most definitely do well against pugs.

Needs a 5 second bolt of change, otherwise it's just not putting out consistent burst rotations/hurt like the other RDPS.
We used it (did duo magus with tank) to great success. It can work.

That would be really nice to have that 5 sec cd back.peterthepan3 wrote:Needs a 5 second bolt of change, otherwise it's just not putting out consistent burst rotations/hurt like the other RDPS.

Why would they nerf a class that's been universally considered underwhelming since release in 2008? Or do you mean it was never 5s CD?

Most convincing argument I've ever read. On anything.Torquemadra wrote:Also I play a magus and if I felt it was in dire need of work Im in the unique position where I would just do it.

Defo time for me to roll a Magus.

I've had quite some hilarious run-ins with Magus in lower tiers on my alts, I think there is nothing more demoralizing than a Magus whooshing around in the very back of the map sniping a whole SC of pugs in T3 ~ the long range play of Magus is hilarious, imo alot more fun than a midget, considering the derpy disk surfing and the magic ST dps.
In regards to Magus:Engi comparisions, I'd say the IB+Engi synergy - the avoidance stack is hilarious - ultimately makes the pulling buisness alot easier than it is on the Magus. Other than that, yeah, Magus is a hilarious class.
@Peter, do you by chance have footage of your Magus runs? I'd very much like to see it perform in 6v6, its arguably a rare sight.
