Bummer.

What VPN service are you using? As mentioned, then I couldn't make the above fix work with Hotspot Shield. Cyperghost worked - but you have to wait for 30-60s for it to connect, if using the free version.

Also, are you at least getting the "connecting to server" message, when trying the above? When I don't use the above fix, my server connection window (that little black box on the Character Selection screen) simply remains blank until the game freezes and the authentication error pops up.

If you at least get the connecting messages now, then maybe try to wait until the game hangs on those, before tapping out and disconnecting your VPN.

EDIT: I also run everything as administrator (launcher, VPN). Don't know if that matters a bit, though.

the server has closed your connection - that is the message I get whenever I turn off the VPN, upon connecting to the game with it. Without the VPN, i don't see any text at all, and it crashes.
