Atleast at max level... For lower levels I think 5:1 is FAR too steep....it is the reason players dont play lower level PVP... You could farm 500 tier 1 emblems, which would make 100 tier 2, which makes 20 tier 3 which makes a measly
FOUR tier 4 emblems... Why is it so punishing? This is why player want to "get to max level ASAP" because any time spent in tier 1 is like a factor of 100:1 in tier 4... its just seen as "not worth it" compared to boosting and getting max level to start the gear grind...
Personally I would love to see something like EITHER:
- 5:1 from any lower to ANY higher tier (meaning 5 tier 1 = 1 tier 4 OR 5 tier 1 = 1 tier 3 OR 5 tier 1 = 1 tier 2.) This idea mainly benefits lower tier PVP more.. Might encourage too much tier 1/2 PVP....
OR, reducing it do 2:1 (meaning 500 tier 1 = 250 tier 2 = 125 tier 3 = 62 tier 4). What this does is makes lower tier PVP more attractive to debolster or play alts which strengthens the community across all tiers. I can easily see people wanting to play tier 3 or tier 2 again because you can actually use what you get there TO progress towards your gear goals...
IMO Gear should not be the focus of the grind but RR levels should be. Gear should be 1 "hook/carrot" for players and frankly, this is an area where more is WAY better than less.
Having 1 "BIS" set that everyone works towards is very boring IMO. Having 5 sets in which you can mix n match set pieces and set bonuses to fit your play style is what keeps people playing longer. They make 1 "build" and then weeks later want to try some other combination and inevitably... it requires more farming to get that gear. Then said players tries that build, a few weeks later wants to try another build. etc.
This is what attracted me to come BACK to ROR. However personally... Id rather see less "sets" and more individual pieces. This is what creates more fun for more players. The set bonuses create stats that exceed individual pieces stats. Set bonuses can be a cool "bonus" but it shouldnt be THE reason for wearing that gear (like it is now).
Anyways I am off topic. I think a vendor from RVR currency to SC currency and vice versa would be more than fair for everyone and only encourage MORE PVP across the board... People wouldnt be forced into 1 game type because thats the only way to farm said gear. If I want SC gear for my XXX class, I can get said gear via SC or RVR.. Both work towards the same end goal.
I also think that rather than merely creating more/newer/better sets every so often... You can always just create more alternative sets that end up with the same "total stats" but just offer different versions... Or maybe individual pieces that are "in par" with set pieces + set bonuses so players can use a set, or mix n match pieces to get desired stats they want...
