Should I return?

Hello there!
After a few months not playing the game, I'm finally back at RoR.
I just thought a few days ago that I will give it another try, having no clue of the reasons why I quit in the first place.
I checked my toons, and loged in with my magus, which is my main btw.
I joined a wb on CW, we were attacking an order keep. After a few kills we got wiped, so back to wc.
Anyway, I got some fun doing this. So after this battle I checked my gear, my inventory etc...
And then I remembered the reason why I quit:
The mercenary gear.
As a magus the mercenary gear is the best for DPS. I got lucky, the best DPS gear for my two other favorites classes to play (SH and WE) is annihilator.
I'm sure this is not an issue for the great majority of the playerbase, but damn for me it is...
I don't like scenarios. Even worse than that, I hate these things.
I tried it with my magus before I quit. I took it upon myself and managed to get the mercenary barbute before stopping it, having no fun at all farming for days the only thing that I literally hate about this game.
I bought the mercenary boots and gloves, but that's it.
Now, with the change to the gear bonus ( you know, the +5% crit bonus only available at 5 pieces), I have to farm for the robe AND for the shoulders...
Wanna know what is the worst in that story? I have the annihilator robe and shoulders!

Like everyone else, I want to optimize my gear and having fun playing this game.
We all know that anni gear is way more difficult to get that the merc one.
Is there any possibility to trade annihilator gear for merc gear? (and not the opposite ofc)
Maybe a NPC that can be added to trade these things?
The heart of the game is ORvR, and that's what I enjoy about it.
Getting all the medallions to have the full anni gear set? Sure, that would be a pleasure to me.
Getting all the emblems to have the full merc gear set? No, please not...
I love the magus, but farming for days a thing I hate for a little optimization barely visible on my stats? No thanks.
Why should I play if I have no fun doing it? What's the point?

Of course, back on live I would never ask for something like that.
Luckily, this is not AoR, but RoR, and this game is a thousand times better than the original.
I just want to have fun and keep progressing with my favorite class, but it's not worth it.

I don't know the proper reasons why I hate doing scenarios, but that's really not fun to me. Not even a little.

So, is there any possibility of such a thing being added?

Anni/Merc are the top tier gear sets. You're not going to see them being easier to attain until they're no longer the top tier gear sets.

Tox, do you ever run scenarios in a premade? Sorry if that's an ignorant question, I'm not sure which guild you're in. Anyway, pugging in scs is usually a nightmare but if you have a 6man, they can be downright fun. If you don't have a group to roll with, message me in game sometime (Cegee or Cegeee). Who's Savvy runs sc groups most nights (NA time) and we often have a spot open for dps. SCs don't have to suck and they can be a good place to help you perfect and optimize your spec and rotation :)

If it is only a little optimization barely visible on your stats, then what's the problem?

Don't farm Merc. You can be quite competitive with Ruin/Anni.

I have the exact problem only reversed. I have full Ruin and Merc sets for my main characters and that's pugging SCs 100% of the time. Pugging and depending on how long I play, I usually get between 20-50 emblems a night. I'd imagine premades groups running all day probably get double and triple that amount.

The current RvR campaign isn't fun in the slightest imo so I don't waste time on it even if I miss out on Anni gear.

That said, getting full Ruin and T4 epics lets you compete with no problems while you work on your Anni/Merc if that's your goal.

I don't want both gear sets to be easier to obtain.
But you know, Magus being a DPS class I was thinking that maybe the most difficult gear to obtain (annihilator) will be the best for DPS. I was wrong.
Anyway, what about my idea to add a NPC to exchange anni gear for merc gear? Not gonna happen?

A little optimization is still optimization sadly.
Sure I can be "quite competitive" with these sets, but not optimized.

I suggest just solo queing for nordenwatch. I either solo roam or solo que most nights, since I play weird hours when guild isn't on often. Magus does well solo now. If all else fails, hide in the rocks near spawn like Technomork and laugh all the way to the emblem vendor :p

Probably not. They're earned through different playstyles, it wouldn't make sense to exchange them. Eventually new sets will come out that might be more interesting to use. The point we're trying to reach is a large amount of sets with a less impactful difference between the tiers anyway. Player skill should trump gear, to a reasonable degree.

...

So. You either have to put in the time and effort to be Optimized or you wont feel competitive.

But you don't want to put in "days of effort"(It's really not hard my AM can afford 4/5 Merc and he's only 39/35)

But you want to be competitive, but you don' think the Item's are worth it. But you still feel you need to be Optimized..

Wow. 1st world problems.
