New player - some questions!

Hello everyone; like most of you, I was one of the unlucky few who played WAR down to the bleeding final moments and was crushed to see it close.

I've been following this project for about two years but was always intimidated by it. I'm not really sure what to make of it.

I have some questions, and it would be great to get them cleared up before I begin playing.

1. This is primarily a "development" server, right? So with that being said - what can I expect in terms of server downtime, character wipes, etc. ?

2. Being that there is admittedly a small core group of players, how does RvR work? In the original WAR, there were level brackets - so are the players really spread out to one end of the bracket? Like are there more high-level players than low? Does this make leveling exceedingly hard?

3. Speaking of progression - how do the PQs work? Essentially - has the level progression changed to reflect the number of active players?

4. What areas of the map/classes/etc. are currently locked off - any? Any armor sets unobtainable?

- Distance.

Dev server means we do experimental builds and you have a much higher rate of bugs than what would be expected on a live stable server. There are several things not fully finished, but it is extremely playable otherwise. Since the server started, we have only wiped characters once, and the majority of those were accounts that had not logged in for 6+ months, assumed inactive. Server downtime is kept to a minimal, and usually because something crashed and one of the core devs that could bring it online are sleeping or otherwise busy.

Similar to live, most of the players are in T4 currently. T1 almost always has activity, and we've merged T2/T3 into the same RvR battlefront with rotating zones to make better use of the generally low population. Leveling rates are generally unchanged currently, so about a week of solid playing to reach R32 and enter T4 properly.

PQ's are a work in progress, there's a list of working/broken ones somewhere on the forums. Some work, many do not. The DB team is currently focused on getting them all to a playable state, but custom scripting for the events is not currently being done as we're waiting on tools to be developed to finish them properly.

All of the main RvR maps are active. City and Fortress battles are not working. Land of the Dead is not implemented yet. Annihilator (RvR) /Mercenary (Scenarios) are the best armor sets currently available. All classes are fully implemented, and many have significant changes from the live server to address long standing balance issues.

Server population is best during EU primetime with 4-5 RvR warbands per faction, and slowly tapers off during NA primetime 2-3 RvR warbands. Late night NA is primarly Scenarios as RvR is not being designed for a small amount of players to effectively take Keeps.

Paying attention to the changelogs is far more important than it was on live, but if you were always hoping for frequent, iterative, and well informed decisions on balance, this server is hitting it's stride quite well. It is a lot of fun. Embrace change!

Thanks so much! Lots of good information here.

One burning question I do actually have: if T2-T3 are generally inactive, how does done gear through those levels?

in the case that you find little or no action in these tiers here are some alternatives
-Debolster to t1, so you get some action at least (type .ror debolster in-game to see requirements)
-Travelling quests (Speak to major whatshisname) in different areas
-Scaven quests, Farm ruin (lvl 28minimum)
-Powerleveled by a guildie (he kills mobs, you get exp)
-Kill on your own mobs to increase scavenging / butchering / get items for lvling salvaging.
-Doing PQ's (search the forum for a list showing active PQ's

easiest way to get t2/t3 activity is to stir it up by yourself; start capping BOs, move supplies from Battlefield Objectives to your own keep you to rank it up, ask people in /t2 and /t3 chats to come join you, make a public Warband, ask people in /5 (lfg) that you want more people to join in taking zone this and that.
People often look up for someone else to take the initiative, which is why the warcamps are often full of slackers, but as soon as someone gets things going, people join open Warbands and come help you capture zones.

Of course, time zones matter. During EU peak hours many people log on their main characters in tier4, which means the middle tiers are mostly active when your realm is losing in t4 or just before primetime during early EU afternoon.
