Implementation of RR 40+ content

Plenty of rumors here and there, conqueror is the next major step in RvR content... how is the team planning on implementing it?

>Forts making a come back?
>New currency to purchase sets?
>Alternative sets, and how they will be obtained?
>How will the current ORvR campaign play into it?

Feel free to discuss anything related to the OP as well.
Spoiler:
No one better be an anti-fort shill :^)

I like unicorns.

I also like to make jokes that apparently go over moderators heads.

>Forts making a come back?
No real work done on these yet. I believe the direction last talked about was instancing them for balance reasons.

>New currency to purchase sets?
As in a new tier of currency specific to Conq? We're not using War Crests, so probably.

>Alternative sets, and how they will be obtained?
Dungeon sets were the next step up from PQ sets. Of course that means building dungeon instances which Londo is currently working on the instance builder.

>How will the current ORvR campaign play into it?
Since we're doing the whole "try to make it like live" I would guess Conq would be rewarded from fortresess, and currency to purchase it would be dropping from appropriate RR players.

If the devs can deliver a lag free or at least somewhat smooth experience in forts what exactly is bad about them?

@wargrimnir

I believe on live forts were instanced as well? Do you have any idea of the amount of players the server could handle in that one area or what the cap would be?

Also by alternative sets I mean the current implementation of say annihilator and it's counterpart mercenary set which you can obtain from scenarios.

Well, for once they are designed around being a gear check, on live the fortress lord had an aoe aura around him that simply killed anyone who was not in full annihilator or had the equivalent wards.

Also they are an exacerbation of everything that is wrong with keeps, they force people to funnel into places, give ridiculous advantages to defenders and basically ask you to continue sacrificing people to just overwhelm the defenders via numbers, there is no way you are going to capture a fortress with similar number and skill in both sides, is just a giant meat grinder for attackers.

Mythic had to drop them not because of this but because they simply crashed servers when too many people were on them and the only way to solve that was basically limiting the number of people in the zone, A hundred per side iirc and just force anyone over that number to be kicked to the warcamp, trust me that getting kicked out of the Orc fortress and having to travel across all of Black Crag to probably get kicked again was not fun in any way shape or form.

If we want fortresses, we better start changing keeps and how they work to test things for them. Else they are mostly a source of frustation.

If I remember correctly, the current scen gear, i.e. Merc, will be the last of its kind? If that is the case, will there be a possibility for conq+ to be obtained via scen kills again?

It wasn't a true instance, just a population cap to preserve performance. The Winds of Chaos would port you back to your warcamp if there wasn't room at the fort. There were no objectives, no timer, it was chaos and blobbing. But that's what RvR is all about I guess. The server seems happy enough with a 200v200 fight. Think primetime EU T4 zerg battles. Now those with significantly better hardware and bandwidth.

I haven't heard anything about new scenario sets at all. If it didn't exist in some fashion on live, we're going to be reusing assets to create new stuff. Might get tricky.
