Question about being DDoS'd

Soo.. what happens if the hardware being used to DDoS the server is capable of running indefinitely?

Technically, all attacks will run forever unless there is intervention in some way.

I think someone is spoofing their IP at the moment.

He will eventually be caught, in this server, or another. Video game, or business.
He will have plenty of time to think about how cool he was back in the day while spending time in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

Well, that's what I mean, if they either have the hardware that can attack and they go about their lives nonetheless (doesn't use up resources they actually need or want) they'll leave it on and forget about it. Right now, I think that as far as we are aware of, we're just hoping they get bored and stop.

As long as new threads are created for bellyaching or worrying, you can expect this to be true or prolong it.

This does not give total DDos protection. Nothing does.

How would he get caught? DDoS are nigh impossible to trace. How would he get stopped?

DDos attackers have been caught before. In many countries. I'm sure with that hardware, he has done it before or to other parties.
