I do it all the time as a means of taunting people.
Thanks for the replies, all.

I suppose the primary difference is this. If this had been live and the means existed for a Destro character to see what you were saying in open chat I probably wouldn't have been concerned with this level of a taunt. I mean geez, some of the stuff people said to each other in region chat back then, my behavior would have been saint-like. But this is a private server, on which I play by grace. Therefore I understand the standards are and should be a bit higher.

I agree with you that friendly taunting via a bit of trash talking is just that. But I am also aware that if the Devs and GMs here don't want it then that is how it has to be.

Trash talking was not possible on live though. The only reason you can do it here is because that's how it worked at first in RoR and the community pretty much begged the Devs to keep it that way (ie letting us talk to the other realm). So yes, people should probably avoid any trash talk in-game.

Yeah, you were able to trash talk people on the old Bioware forums. "@" posts were pretty common. But that didn't mean trash talking was allowed; it just meant that the old mods didn't give a ****.

There are much better ways to create a friendly rivalry anyway. Try doing a /salute to your enemy after you kill him. Maybe a /eat or /drink if you run into him in RvR or a SC.

So what your saying is that we should not be trash talking then? If that is the case, I will definitely not do it anymore.

I'm not saying what you should/should not do. I'm no GM, nor do i make the rules (i don't even now what the rules say about trash talking). However i think trash talking is pretty stupid, specially when you do it to someone who gives you good, fun fights.

Instead of telling him "you suck", i would have gone with "nice fights mate". Then again that's just me...

edit: Unless the guy is already your friend. Then you can trash talk him all you want

That sounds a lot like how in WoW, the people dueling outside of either Org or Goldshire sometimes name call when they lose. It's silly but whatever lol.

My trash talking came from the bigger fights.

well in the old game it was just spam /rude and move on ;p

/emote worked as far as I remember though?

I usually dont say anything until im pointlessly jumped by entirely too many people, to which I will usually say, Hurry it up, you suck at killing"

I say as long as your not harassing the guy, and your not cussing him out to the extreme, then I see no issue here.

Also I do not agree with the idea that you "cannot" Trash talk the GM who is playing in RvR or SC's. They often would not even have GM/Dev tag on at that point. If a GM or a Dev gave you **** for saying "you suck" in an open combat area, then my sir, I would laugh my ass off and call it a day =)

Hmm well I don't get the point of insulting, "trash talk" someone. If you really have to do it in order to have fun well then so be it but you can be certain that a lot of people are offended by it and don't like it. As penril already said things like "good fight" or "that was intressting" is most certainly the better way to express something.

@Storm: I doubt any GM would care about a simple "you suck".

While none of us are saints (I am as far from a saint as you can get) and all succumb to being human I personally find a rivalry better built on mutual respect over being an asshat. Shakes the chosen on live was a benchmark for me for the longest time.

Oh and it was Ojiichan not Ochican, I know because for quite a while I thought he was cheating and would report him almost daily, it wasnt until I rolled my own shaman what he was doing made sense to me, I couldnt do it but I could see how, he was just that good at it.
That's just the thing right? None of us are "saints". I guess when it goes from being tame to malicious is when we all need to take a step back.

I for one call the Order cowards all the time during ORVR. Ok well not all the time, but every so often I will just to try an taunt them to come down and fight us. :P
