I don't know exacly what kind of computer you need but a cheap one should be more than enough,I barely ever use mine and it's 3 years old but I can play on the highest settings at 60 fps no problem,so you really don't need much

Woatan wrote:Any decent soul out there who can tell me the cheapest/good enough pc build for playing Warhammer?

My gaming situation is taken care of by my Xbox, but I miss playing Warhammer and I feel buying an overly excessive computer for that purpose is uneccessary. Let's make a build that gets the job done.

Help appreciated!

Just buy a good CPU and a decent GPU.Game is more CPU bound when it comes to oRvR and big fights.

2500k's go for around £60 second hand and 7850 GPU's for around £45, a machine built around them runs this game at what seems to be the cap of 99fps. It's a really easy game to run well.

I'll chime in here. Until recently I was running an AMD 3.4GHz Phenom II and a GTX 760, and I pretty much had to skimp on things like ability animations, shadows, grass, etc... Furthermore, whenever I'd take part in a keep take (back in t3 when I played more often), or queue up for Battle of Praag, my FPS would eventually go to crap. It would even happen in scenarios like GoE sometimes, and I kind of felt like my level of play and contribution to the team suffered for it. Keep in mind, this was with a minimal addon load and not much else going on.

Now, with the nVidia 10 series out, the 9 series is a lot more affordable for the casual gamer not fortunate enough to be of the manor born. I picked up a GTX 970 for ~ $300, which I could have gotten cheaper had I been willing to buy one off Craig's List (gamers selling their old cards because they got a new 10-series). While I was at it I looked at upgrading my CPU, and was able to get a AMD FX 4.0 GHz for ~ $150.

With those two changes I've been able to max all the settings I care about ("balanced" shadows seem perfectly fine to me, and I'll probably never care about reflections on the water...), and I haven't experienced any FPS-lag in the places that used to give me trouble. That being said, I'm still bad. Turns out that better hardware doesn't necessarily make you a better player...

As someone mentioned above, the CPU will be a bottleneck no matter how nice your graphics card is, so if I had to pick only one then I'd have gone with the CPU upgrade.

*EDIT* Oh, I just noticed your forum avatar. So you play Order? Um . . . you wanna buy my old Phenom II and 760? JK JK ;)

An i5-6400 + gtx950/960 or amd/ati equiv will do this game just fine if you are looking for new. Can probs play this maxed on a i5-2500k and gtx 550 with high frame rates.

Game came out originally in 2008, and will always run like crap in large scale fights(due to the engine being crap). On a gtx970 game barely goes over 30% gpu usage.

I had an i5 3570k and a an HiS 7850 when the game was on its last legs.

I have been running https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ at 3440x1400 for several months with no noticeable performance loss, so I would assume that you can really skimp, since I was seemingly running at cap with a far inferior setup.

Depending on what kind of spare parts you have laying around (monitors, cases, power supplies, etc) I would imagine that you could build something for around $500 (or less) and run this game at cap.

Yeah as mentioned above...even if you Buy and i7 and Gtx 1080 or Titan X you will still get FPS drops down to 30s and even below on big-big fights...there is nothing that hardware can do if game is crap optimized.

Shoot for a 4.0 ghtz quad core if you go AMD, something like the 8350 is solid for the price range. Intel is obviously better no matter what, so going with an older i5/i7 will cost you more but be worth it in the long run. The difference being around 100-200$ more expensive for older generation Intel chips, and 300-400$ more expensive for the newer line. You will get better performance out of an I5 running at 3.0 then an AMD anything running at 4.0.

GPU's are easy, this game is not overly demanding when it comes to graphics cards, everything is CPU demanding. Any 200$ range card can blast through this game easily, so AMD r9 series are fantastic for the price, as well as the lower end 900 series. Personally I would go with r9 at the 200$ price range since they outperform 960's using a higher bitrate.

Basically this game is extremely CPU dependent and as long as you put in a solid quad core with decent clock speed it will run decent. AMD FX line quad cores will do fine, and are very inexpensive.
