Error when trying to connect

I keep getting this error message after connecting to the game via launcher.

Error starting: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): The operation was canceled by the user
at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo)
at RoRLauncher.Client.Handle(PacketIn packet)

I've tried running the performance counter rebuilder as administrator, running launcher as administrator, etc. The game loads up but can't access character creation, or anything like that.
