You can use enviroment to your advantage without any problem. No more than 1 shot from a player will "catch" you after you hind behind a wall or something else. With your bw example same thing. Why should someone be penalized for your long casts? I would love to be able to use environment to most of my advantage, hiding from ranged enemies, etc. Being hit with everything because dpsers don't know how to play the game and in the end it has to be easier for them is a lousy argument in my opinion. Why there would be so many different maps if as well you could play on a flat land with no objects in it at all?
And one more thing. As I am being hit with everything even though enemies don't have me in sight I struggle with healing ppl who hide behind the BOs flagpole which renders them out of sight (but they are 5cm away from me). Oh dear

I've experienced this and its not fun(it must be fun for ranged who know it works though ;p
I think its only auto attacks that are happening more frequently through every object, players do need line of sight on casting or they wont be able to so LoS checks are working correct in that respect, just needs looking into further I guess!

Just want to add that without this feature (finish the casting after 50% in any case) playing as ranged on sc like isha temple or factory would be nigh impossible. Its' already very hard and skills get interrupted by out of los very often. So no disbalance here.

There is something very gritty in the los check, apart from the 50% casting. Sometimes u get good cover from small objects and others u leave yourself exposed from behind a giant rock; but it could be a visual bug due to lag in my case.
