Appreciating thread

Hello,

Lately I feel I've been focusing too much on what gaps and lack of rvr updates and a disagreeable development direction. There is generally speaking also a negativ vibe towards some of the later patches and years of content.
But its not all bad, event if we disagree.

Feel free to join me below in appreciating some RoR additions and changes that stand out to you as a super positive change or addition over the years. Maybe we dont all agree on each item listed, but we dont have to.

Ill start.
1) Largescale game performance after the Peon Wave suddenly saw a fantastic spike and imho became the best on the large for this bracket of pvp. WoW, GW2, Daoc, Rift or whatever MMO. Nothing comes close to the smoothness we can have with modern PCs and correct settings for largescale, as RoR provides!

2) Killboard added as a statistic tool. Here I am not talking about ego killspreees and pugfarming, but the ability to see a skirmish, see how many players each guild had, how they performed and the ability to see more of the full picture from a clash, session or skirmish. To better understand what worked and what didnt work. Requires more of a non bias view individually to use imo.

3) The Battleobjective stacking reward buff added a year ago. Personally I drive my guild towards getting these buffs, and try to use this system. I wish more players did too, and that there would be more patches in the same direction. It showed me the devs and RvR team understands player behavior, and that there is hope for future rvr patches to tacle rvr and community mindsets.

4) The live event cloak I use on my BW with the Ember and the chicken (i dont really do lore at all) but ill likely never replace this cloak and in rough times, this cloak skin alone lets me enjoy the rough times on RoR. thanks to the artist team from the buttom of my heart!

5) The scenario matchmaking system might still need tweaks, but i think discordant solo queue pops and the new updated matchmaking is making the way for a better overall scenario experience between all levels and playstyles and brackets all around.

6) Live events is not for everyone, I personally like alot of them. Minus the emoting tasks lol. There are some cool rewards, and this has indirectly solved some of the games gold economy to make sense against to have gold on hand to save and invest in limited skins, or items, throughout the year.

7) The new player updated quest, tuturial T1 dungeon, free talismans, milestone mail with potions and more of a welcoming introduction to game systems and less of a veteran vs noobie powercreep approach. This helps us all if the newcomers last longer.

8) The hardmode achivements and speedrun quests for dungeons. I personally find it fun havin the option to either, it makes pve more visitable even when you dont need it for progression, but feel like doing something other than rvr for a night.

9) The changes to AM/Shammy, Zealot & RP class mechanics were really enjoyable additions imo to the game and fixed how few builds and players for example used the old shammy mechanic beside Furt of da Green builds. I hope we see more class mechanic overhauls and logical direcional changes to classes that need it.

10) Addons being constantly implimented, updated and improved. Thanks for sharing, creating and testing to those that make this possible!

Those were some of my all around, first to mind changes that pushed RoR in a better direction from the foundation of AoR live servers.
We might not agree on all or some of them, and my playstyle and yours might not aline. But then you can cover those changes, that didnt stand out to me, to show appreciating towards some areas I might disagree with or have taken for granted.

But thanks to everyone who have worked, or is working on making RoR bette!

Lots of hard work and time has gone into the game. Some changes great, others not so (preference)

Roadmap is great to see. Potentially new maps or map changes. (Bring back the kraken sea!)

Community manager would be a useful addition.

Great this is still going. After a long break and life happening ROR is something I still massively enjoy.

Land of the Dead is the best PvP I've ever done. That includes anything in DAoC, GW2, WoW, and live AoR. Somehow it mixes casuals and hardcore with objective based gameplay that can be blob, warband, 6-man, solo/duo where everything you do counts toward victory and there isn't a moment's downtime.

Scenario changes, particularly the changes to renown, are fantastic.

The ways we can obtain gear is nearly perfect. PvE is a path to get to the best, but isn't the best (with some exceptions) and there are no tedious requirements for specific content like winning forts or cities. And at the same time it's not completely trivial, with some choices to make.

I personally like the addition of LV and the changes to boss mechanics in other dungeons.

I love the community in this game. Advice chat, starter guild, lots of ways to help new players. This game and GW2 both managed to emphasize content that involves all players interacting with each other. You'll have more interaction with players in one month playing here than you would in a year playing WoW or FFXIV where auto-queue group content and solo questing are the primary means of progression.

I like that the devs here are active on the forums and in game. I like that they are trying to do new things and improve the game after all these years, whether it works perfectly or not.

I love the live events.

There's probably a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten.

- I don’t think it can be overstated just how much of an improvement the new scenario matchmaker is over the last one. The quality of the fights have been so much better since it launched.

- The PvE team has been on a winning streak for years now and continues to improve as they develop their skills. I have no doubt that the LotD rework will be something truly special.

- The forever underappreciated art team has released some absolute bangers recently. The LV back pieces in particular are incredible.

- For all the cr*p they get, the balance team has done some great work over the last few years. They've breathed new life into previously sub-optimal classes and given a well-deserved nerf to overperforming ones. The fact that the only nerf threads we see nowadays are for solo roaming is a testament to how much better the group balance is between classes. Although balance changes are still very much a work in progress, and mistakes have been made along the way, it's much better than what we had before the balance team started their work. Good riddance to the 8 Slayer warbands. Unfortunately, as the forums are a hive of negativity and personal gripes, the balance team rarely gets the recognition they deserve.

In a world where seemingly everything that used to be creative is turning into bland corporate bullsh*t, it's amazing that there are still games like RoR that have creatives putting their time and effort into it for nothing more than the love of the game. I hope that in the not-too-distant future the game gets to a point that the team considers the base game complete, so they can get out of alpha and let their creative juices flow by creating more things outside of the scope of AoR. AoR never got to have a true expansion, and the RoR team finally making one would be the true testament to not only the team's skills, but to what AoR could have been if it had the right people to unlock its potential.

well said all you guys. im playing ror for many years now and over these years the game has gotten better and better for me (i know thats subjective). the ror team improved the game in so many ways, especially love the new scenario matchmaker.
to all of you people who wish back ror from a few years ago, please dont forget that memories are not stable and the brain (in small steps) creates a more positive version of the past in your memory. the grass is always greener in the past ;)
