A Tanky DPS?

Hello all. I have read that out of all the tank classes, Sword Master has the highest dps capability because it does spirit damage. My question is the reverse of this. Out of all the dps classes, which has the highest tankiness, by which I mean survivability? Thanks.

Mara - high durability in monstro, somewhat subpar damage
WL - high mobility, high damage
mSh/aSw - Double armor and defense buffs, mobility, high damage

Highest direct durability i would call out Monstro Mara. But beeing able to pounce and have mobility can be better mitigation if you play it right.

If you get mitigation through stats you lose dps. Mitigation through mobility doesn't cost you dps.

edit: forgot about magus/engi, they can get pretty tanky with respectable dps too, especially magus.

On Destro, Marauder is by far the tankiest DPS. I would, as an SM main, unironically rather hit 2 handed tanks than most Marauders.

On Order, it's really a toss up, with no really clear winners. I'd give it a tie between Assault Shadow Warrior and Engineer, assuming both are geared and built defensively.

all dps can build tanky through mastery/tactics/tali/rr points some benifit from flat middle armor(mara/wl/asw), some benifit from avoidance, high parry, ripostle etc(wh/slayer). its really up to ur play style.

Everyone can be built tanky, i suppose the better question which dps can remain useful while being very tanky.

Marauder and Engineer are no doubt kings here. Both can provide a lot of utility while built defensively.

ASW on order side.
6k+ armor with full purple armor talis.
perma aoe detaunt. 15s CD 15s duration.
it was close to my tank sm.
stun+focus was only threat.
ofc hits like defensive tank.
though it was dominator BiS era.

Incorrect. The detaunt works like any other detaunt; only until you hit the detaunted target. Also it needs a tactic to be aoe. Nothing special.

Order side i'd say Engi can be the tankiest while still being useful. aSW can also be tanky, but not useful.

you underestimate aoe detaunt with 6k armor. it's almost same as knight vigilance.
why would anyone aoe after aoe detaunt. also it stops AA. you can manage not to break detaunt.
even if u hit 1 main target, it doesn't break rest of aoe detaunt.

isn't your engie tank spent a tactic slot for armor?
I think being useful as tank is mitigating damage.
back in domi era i was able to tank 4+ dps assist, with 1~2 healer ofc.
I still remember premade WE screaming why this SW not dying, it's cheat!

Yes that makes sense, but is not the same as 'perma aoe detaunt'. You should've explained properly from the beginning instead of expecting the reader to assume what you're trying to say.

perma detaunt is common thing among healers.
didn't notice it need full explanation.
'perma aoe detaunt' is literally as is.
dive into 4+ dps while shooting aoe detaunt on center target. cuz it's too late after stun.
don't use attack skill, just kiting while facing most dangerous mdps for parry.
after 15s shoot aoe detaunt again.
that's it.
most effective usage is making 4 mdps overextend into our trap.
perfect decoy.

I think only mara and sw have this tactic.
