It's viable in a good group and for small-scale encounters.

The character I have most fun playing with is my witchelf. You die quick, you kill quicker. When I started it I was a full noob. You learn quick. Go for what you like, eventually is what you will play best.

I have had Tons of fun on my slayer and still am at rr50! And Ive been pugging my way there most of the time. Takes time to learn and you will for a lot in pugs. A lot. But That makes the times IT works out Even better.

Depending where you play from, latency can also be a huge issue with mdps.
Currently having fun leveling my slayer in pve though.

Be a noob healer only if you like to shower in hate and grudge.

If you really want to roll an MDPS, try a marauder. He's not exactly easy to play at full potential but he's far more forgiving than the rest and you don't have to deal with a buggy WL pet.

I'd avoid melee if you're just starting out. You have to fully commit to a fight to do your job and without an understanding of the classes you're fighting and a pocket healer you're just going to get eaten alive by even the sloppiest ranged pugs that can dot you and run away while you hold your w key, awaiting your free ride back to the war camp. If you don't mind dying a ton though, go for it.
