A Strongly suggested checklist before you get on the boards/forums and start requesting a nerf to some opponent class or a buff to your favorite class.
1. Your play style is that of a member of a group.
As this is a group game based design, any problems you may have vs a class 1v1 do not count. Only in group dynamics are the full abilities of a class seen, as well as its weaknesses. Solo players can not properly evaluate anything.
Also the group MUST BE a well thought out pre-made. Pug(ing) does not constitute group play.
2. You know how to play your prefered class.
Rolling a Shamie to see how they work and before you reach level 5 you are requesting buffs or nerfs vs (insert any class) is not how to do it. Get your shamie to end game levels and see how it works there. THEN, you can honestly see what may need a buff or a nerf.
3. MOST IMPORTANT:
Be Aware!!! WAR classes were not created to mirror their opposites. The heal debuff (example) from say an mdps on destro is found on an rdps on order.
When played at their full potential by a skilled player and with proper support group, ALL classes in WAR are viable. (*)
4. SECOND MOST IMPORTANT:
RoR is in an Alpha Stage. A LOT of things do not work as they should yet. Stop screaming and play another class till yours is fixed.
RoR is in only up to t3. No Class is complete till
(a) in t4
(b) max RR
Complaining about the viability of a class in lower tiers is just plain stupid. Lower tiers are not meant to be endgame. Just because you love roflstomping newbies to a tier, while you are decked out in blue and purple gear, does not make your chosen lower tier end game. Level up and get to max Level and RR. THEN and ONLY THEN are you qualified to judge if a class is in need of a nerf or a buff!
(*) BO/SM do need some things worked on but never the less can still perform wonderfully either solo or in a group.

But not all specs. With Aza changing the Grace spec of a WP around, a class that already has a viable spec in salvation, clearly there is a willingness by the devs to buff certain specs of certain classes. Some of the buff threads we've had of late usually focus on buffing a specific tree vs the entire class.drmordread wrote: ALL classes in WAR are viable.
The nerf threads though are getting a little overwhelming cuz most of those people either don't want to know how to counter something, or don't care and cry for a nerf regardless. SW Fester was something that was really hard to counter as well as engy/magus pulls. The devs have done a surprisingly a good job on balance so far... I'm really impressed.

Most people know how the game was in live at end game. Thats how balance should be suggested. War was never balanced towards lower tiers and any changes will affect endgame which is the most important.

Problem is, end game on live was at RR100 with doom/warp gear. Here it will be RR80 w/ sov gear. There is a huge difference there.Telen wrote:Most people know how the game was in live at end game. You might be surprised. I've seen multiple people claiming that Weapon Skill didn't apply to ranged attacks on Live, and that this is something new to RoR.Telen wrote:Most people know how the game was in live at end game.

THIS is a prime example. Also I have noticed a lot of people coming back to this game who had left before the 1.3.8 / 1.4 + patches .... they do not know how things were in end game.
And, as always, we have people who play up to end of tier 1 or tier 2 and re-roll, their point of view is only those. Just like in the pay server game there were people perpetually playing t3 who wanted to make changes to classes for better t3 gaming. How can you stay stuck in a lower tier on purpose and expect to be taken seriously on end game I do not know.
