Shield wp question

Hello,
What minimum gear do I need to play a shield Warrior Priest in PvE? Also, could someone assist me with a spec using RR55 points? I'm not sure what's decent. Thanks in advance!

I’m sorry to say this, but shield WP has been nerfed so hard that it’s unplayable, not even in PvE.

But if you still want to give it a try without spending too many War Crests, try using the Gunbad/CnT/Bastion sets with strength talismans and go full glass cannon (so you at least have some heals).

Personally I have healed all instances with shield wp with less than rr50, I used just a mix of beastlord, red eye etc till I got my hands on vale-walker + sent/beastlord. With those sets I went into healing bs and lv.

For build I used similar to what was posted above and renown just fs + crit (not much options with rr45) xD

I've healed every dungeon, LV included, with full vale walker + 3 beastlord on shield WP, using this build:
Shield WP

Swap Greave of Sigmar to United in Prayer when you don't have RP in party

(renown: max block, rest in FS, talismans: strength)

Dunno where this judgement comes from, that WP is unplayable in shield spec.

I mean, my WP is still a baby in its 60s with BL gear, yet i have a BIS DOK, and core toolset of shield DOK & WP is identical (I'd even say that WP is slightly better at healing in shield spec), and i must say that my shield DOK easily outperforms BIS zeals/shammies in PVE in terms of healing (not only my observations, but also a judgement from the perspective of BIS zeal owner).

However, i must admit that the aforesaid is applicable to BIS gear, dunno how fresh 40s WPs/DOKs perform nowadays in PVE, levelled mine long before shield spec has been nerfed.

Side note: shield DOK/WP should be played in glass cannon gear/RR build to reach their potential. I found that investment into def for a medium armor wearer (who has a shield) is a huge waste for PVE.

P.S: The above is applicable to PVE only. PVP as shield dok/WP is painful af nowadays, after that massive nerf.

I go with glass cannon build too (to PvE, not PvP):
RoR.builders - Warrior Priest

Renown points to futile strikes until 0%ctbc, max melee crit, then str, then ws, then wounds. No parry or block needed.

Like Sanctific already said, it works just fine in PvE, pretty well even. Not as good as it used to be, but it still helps with assist damage and heal output is good. It's also pretty good ap pump as all your lifetaps count towards direct heal for the refreshing radiance ap tactic.

Now going shield in PvE means you don’t do AoE damage, you don’t do enough ST damage, and you don’t do big heals, yet you still lose the ability to give AP to your group.

That’s why I say shield WP is useless in PvE as well.

Can you do PvE with a shield? Yes. But it’s still a bad spec even in PvE. Your group will be able to do the run much faster and more comfortably if you go book and provide AP to your party so the DPS can do the job quickly and efficiently.

I’m sorry for being so blunt, but that’s the reality. And for the record, shield WP is my favorite class in the game and it really makes me sad that I can’t play it properly, not even in PvE.

Shield specced AP pump is way better than book. Also in my runs of PvE we skip as much mobs as possible, making aoe way less important (also what kinds of groups are you running if the lack of aoe dps on healers is an issue..?). Most of the time we're beating bosses in which all ST damage makes it faster. Heal wise I'm usually on bar with the other healer with snb spec, but I also contribute significant amount of damage on bosses, making overall contribution way more than just pure healer.

IMO its way better to heal in shield than in book for PvE.

Erm...how would you lose AP pump on shield WP if you're of high RR enough?

Here is the build which i would use on my 60s shield WP if i cared to level it to 70+, they are pretty much identical builds with both DOK & WP having identical core toolsets, so for PVE it doesnt make a difference if we are discussing DOK or WP

IMO shield wp is the best solo pve character. Agree with all of the above you want 2h for most pve situations, but there is content that I can only solo with shield.
