Strictly from PvE perspective, if you mean dungeons, all tanks are expected to tank.

As for PvP small-scale i'm asking myself the same question. Been looking up the class and old threads; oppinions seem mixed.

I see a lot of comparissons between SM and BG which to me is plain wrong. Apparently it lacks the utility of the other 2h order tanks while not doing quite enough damage to compare to a pure dps? Not sure, still testing.

SM is more or less Black Orc without YOU WOT?!!! and with Spirit damage.
