That WH and WE need to spec into their only gap closer really hurts potential build diversity. It's a completely required ability, your only way to get the sort of speed boost that other melee have baseline, so every build takes it. Then the fact that you have to take it already makes builds that don't invest further into the tree that it's in inefficient, or downright unviable in some cases.
I believe it'd foster a lot more experimentation and potentially enable some different builds (like exit wound WH) if these abilities were instead baseline. It could also be replaced with something interesting that could shake things up as well.
The elixir/shroud (or w/e its called for WH) system is very limiting too since it's 3 abilities that all share a cd, and the gap closer is obviously going to be the dominant choice in that situation. The opportunity cost using the other 2 options over it is immense, since it means that if you lose melee range you will be kited without recourse. So maybe it could do with a rework as well.

They are not a gap closer. They can be used that way but that is not their main purpose and no they should not be baseline. I love them, its so much fun to use and I absuletely feel they should be removed from the game as there should be no instant stealth in the game.
