Beginner look for Slayer DW build

Hello guys,

I am new player. I start play some week ago. I reach 40 on my character, him is a slayer. I think this game is a lot fun but after getting higher level I'm always getting destroy in PvP, on the lower level I was a lot stronger. I think my build is very bad, I just take some things at randomst. Therefore, I coming here to ask if any can give some advice. What I am looking is just a chill and easy build for play Slayer Dual Wield while learning on the game. I like to play PVP with group and maybe will do some PvE with my real life friends when they come to 40.

Cheer!

can you provide more information on your renown level and current gear? the builds i can suggest are dependent on those factors. however i will list some very basic builds below for a few different RR breakpoints and some gear options.

gear: slayer can take pve gear to become incredibly strong without any RR or crest requirement. the ideal early build you can do is 5 Vale-walker (shoulders, chest, gloves, belt, ring) 3 Sentinel (helm, boots, ring) and 3 Beastlord (cloak, ring, pocket) and bloodlord main hand + subjugator offhand. this will carry you all the way to ~68rr when you can change over to a mix using 4pc Triumphant (chest, gloves, belt, boots). For super early on, it's either Redeye/Beastlord or Conqueror/Beastlord mixes but these should be gotten rid of as soon as you can as they are much weaker than Valewalker/Sentinel.

personally i heavily advise all melee dps, not just slayer, to do 4 Crypts (or Bilerot Burrows if destro) runs, 4 Hunter's Vale runs and 4 Bastion Stairs runs to accrue all of the sets within, as they are extremely powerful and save you a lot of war crests as they can complete your Vanquisher and Invader wards. if you don't want to suffer all the extra pve (hunter's vale mainly), using Vanquisher, Sentinel and Beastlord mix (sentinel helm/ring, beastlord cloak, ring, pocket with rest of slots as vanquisher) is also fine until Triumphant.

dual wield aoe

it's a relatively standard aoe/cleave build for slayer. rampage is quite nerfed so you can opt out of it but early on you don't have enough points to get to short temper anyway so i just take it early on. flanking can be changed out for jagged edge once you have a lot of crit chance (30%+) if you are uncomfortable with hitting your targets from behind. however you should get accustomed to doing so as targets cannot parry or block your abilities from behind, so being behind is crucial to playing efficiently.

renown points

something like this is good early, it's relatively important to have your anticrit at 0% or in the negatives (mouseover your initiative stat on your paperdoll to see what your % is at). you want to have it in the negatives so that enemies will crit you less frequently. when it is in the negative it reduces the enemies' chance to critically strike you, if it is a positive number it actually increases their chance to crit you. this is important as slayer in particular, as your career mechanic makes you extra squishy. in general low level renown builds tend to lack in some areas due to crit and futile strikes costing a lot, you have to choose wisely if you want to invest in staying alive or dealing more damage. my opinion is that you cannot deal damage while you are dead, so it is better to invest in defensive renown.

once you are at 60 or 70rr, you have some extra options like short temper builds for reducing the cooldown of your Inevitable Doom to 0 when combined with accuracy. this is really potent for cleave and works as a single target build as well if you swap accuracy out and use push for more instead.

rotation of aoe slayer is very simple on paper. apply onslaught on entry of a fight, spam some flurry until your rage is in red (or yellow if its a short fight) and then apply inevitable doom(s) and use retribution channel when other players are using their aoe channels. if you take rampage, i suggest using it before you use retribution. try applying deep wound to the designated kill target if you are in organized content, or just to whichever dps or healer is out of position and needs to die fast. numbing strike can also be used on tanks to help them melt faster.

rotation of single target slayer is similar. apply onslaught, deep wound and inevitable doom and try to go behind them and use spine crusher as much as possible. use retribution when going for the kill with your dots applied. numbing strike on tanks or high-parry dps to help secure kills is also a good idea.

if you find yourself taking a lot of damage, or having potent abilities applied to yourself such as Word of Pain from Sorceresses, you should use your detaunt (Distracting Roar) to drop your rage so you get your armor and resistances back. slayer at full rage is extremely squishy and learning how to drop rage is a core part of surviving coordinated attempts to kill you.

much of your rotation is situational - these are just general guidelines. don't follow them by heart in every situation, read the pace of the fight and use abilities appropriately or as your warband leader or main assist calls for them if you are in organized groups.

this should get you started just fine for early on or until i can get some more info about your character's current progress level, or if you have some other question. i hope it helps and good luck in battle
