I only started playing yesterday and immediately encountered this issue.
A workaround is to:
1) Run the launcher and wait for the Connect button to light up.
2) Move/delete the following file out of the game directory: *\miles\mssmp3.asi
3) Hit Connect and play without crashes.
You need to do this each time you want to launch the game and you will not be able to hear any in-game music.

Steelseries engine audio drivers makes the game crashing.
Well. Dunno if it is gonna help, but had lot of crashing few months ago ( on loading game, 4-10 times before being able to play normally). After months and month and of research, have finally found the reason : Steelseries audio drivers (arctis 3).
Sad thing, it seems it is not only with war, and haven't found any fix for that (some recommand to kill SSaudio.exe process as a temporary fix, but haven't tested it).
Since i have replaced my headphone (Razor), all is fine. No more game crash.
