Launcher closes mid update

As the subject title notes, when I run the RoRLauncher it goes through Downloading Manifest just fine but when it gets part way into Verifying (Art 1/6) it just closes, without any errors or messages. It is worth noting that I haven't really had issues with the launcher/update before.

I run Webroot for my AV software in Windows 10, all of which is up to date.

1) I shut down Webroot and Windows firewall and then tried to run the launcher, this did not help
2) I whitelisted all the application files in the RoR directory within Webroot and Windows Firewall, this did not help
3) All the application files in the RoR directory set to Run as Administrator, did not help
4) Tried to download with and without VPN, no change
5) I did all of the above, at the same time, still nothing
6) I moved all my .myp files out of the RoR directory and now it gets to Verifying (World 7/7) before it closes.
7) I uninstalled and re-installed the game with AV and firewall off ; unfortunately still having the same problem except now it stops at downloading WAR.exe (1/148). I followed the "Install Guide" to the letter.
8) Tried a few things from other threads such as downloading a "fixed" WAR.exe and running RoRUpdater.exe (as admin), still stops downloading at WAR.exe (1/148).

What am I missing?

Mine was dying within 15 secs. Downloaded the launcher http://launcher.returnofreckoning.com/RoRLauncher.exe again and that's at least downloading new files now

I had to pause virus protection to get update to work. same as last weeks update

Try to uncheck "Read Only" in properties of the WH folder. It helped me.

Unfortunately, I tried all of the above suggestions and not much changed.

I gave up, uninstalled and re-installed the game; unfortunately still having the same problem except now it stops at downloading WAR.exe (1/148).

My game was fine until today now same problem everyone else is having here

Anyone get theirs working? Today mine still does the same thing.
