From what I have played so far, you pretty much defend nothing. Everyone is doing more damage. the defense chances should be considerably higher. It is fairly straight forward to get tier 2 and 3 influence rewards. Just go to the zones when they are open, find the most contested BO and stay there and fight. You'll get influence from both BO ticks and kills. This adds up very quickly.

You don't get much defence from just using a shield. Most of block chance comes from the % bonuses from gear and abilities. So to make it useful, you'd have to add these things along with the shield.

Enraged Beating is meant to have 7 hits. They were timed at 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0s. Relentless and Myrmidia's Fury had the 6 hits at 0, 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3.0s. With regard to Vaul path abilities: Crushing Adwance defence bonuses are fine, but the interrupt suffers from being on the stance system.
